Chapter one: Taken,

New Orleans, I knew I was home the moment I flew over Bourbon Street, the humans here party all night long. Streets are lit by neon lights, throbbing with music, and decorated by beads and balconies. I kept to the shadows watching the wandering crowds. I walked its streets tonight with purpose. A singular need. I was so lonely for companionship. When I turned Jessie, she was more interested in seeing the world than being with me. So naturally I let her go, hoping one day she would return.

Alas, I had no idea when that would be. I was starving not for blood which I sated my desires nightly, but love. Yes, even Lestat, the brat Prince needs love. Music was my first love; I still played my sorrowful tune into the night on the rooftops away from prying eyes. There I continued my solace; the only comfort now was my music. The band Lestat went on without me and I knew I could never return. This saddens me as well; my children were regrettably missed especially Tough Cookie.

With my need for blood satisfied I waited and looked for the next child to come along, my chosen, my lover, my mate. She would be hunted yes, but not for blood but for me to keep forever. The one.

The noise was a bit much for me, confusing it was. It bombarded my senses. How was I going to pick up on my Princess in a place like this? I continued on this street until I came to Jean Lafitte's, the Creole cottage bar. What drew me to this particular spot was the band within. The music it spoke to me. Such tragic lyrics. A soulful piano solo that tore into my very being. I just had to go in. Just for a while, so I told myself. I had to be in the presence of this genius.

I made my way through the bar and seated myself on the stool. I was turned around away from the bartender and focused my attention on the stage. And there she was. Such a vision that I never saw in all my centuries of living. She had shimmering black hair; it was slightly wavy and reached her middle back; lovely pale skin like porcelain. Just a touch mind you, were a hint of blush on her sweet cheeks.

Her eyes were focused on the keys but soon enough she looked out into the crowd and there under dark eyelashes shone bright in the spotlight were striking violet eyes. I nearly fell out of my stool from the sheer delight that affected me so deeply. I could get lost in those eyes.

When the song was over, she took a bow, and I admired her slender hourglass figure. She was perfect. Her dress was exquisite a gothic style that appealed to me like no other; white like a bride, lace and the boots were knee high glossy with a decent heel. I was enchanted. I look no further for my mate. This was her, the one. I could feel it, and I was determined to have her. I stayed until her time on stage was over. She headed to the dressing rooms in the back and now I realize my opportunity. I would take her by surprise.

Stealthily I crept to her door behind the stage passing people unnoticed with my supernatural speed. A bodyguard was posted nearby. But the fool did not know what hit him when I pounced upon him and drank his blood. I didn't dawdle there for too long. I had my prize to get for tonight. I carefully placed a hand on the knob of her dressing room door. With a single flick of the wrist the lock broke very easily. Nothing will stand between me and my mate tonight. I surreptitiously slipped inside without a sound. I heard the distinct sound of a shower. Her leather mini skirt and white Lacy blouse lay neatly on the chair with her undergarments. Ah, a lover of leather and lace. She had some taste after all.

I listened to the drops of the shower spray and run down her body, just picturing the scene had my member hardening. She was a goddess, and she will be mine.

I decided to let her dress then take her. As she finished with her shower and after a time, emerged wrapped in a towel. I could have purred at the sight of her body as she dropped the towel and carefully dressed in the dim light of the room. As she turned to the side I sucked in a breath as I glanced at her ample breast. She stiffened suddenly as if she heard me and I almost gave away my presence, but I remain still then she shrugged and went back to dressing herself.

With the last shoe on, she reached for her tote bag and carefully placed her outfit and a bag of toiletries inside. She was getting ready to walk out now and I had to do it, it was now or never.

I stepped into the dim light of the room provided by single lamp on the vanity. She dropped her bag and gasped at my sudden appearance. With no doubt of seeing my fangs and my glasslike nails she stumbled back, tripping over the chair leg. I flitted to her rescue and pulled her fallen body into my arms before she could hit the floor.

''There now, I saved you, do not fear me. ''I say softly to her.

''Who are you?'' She asked gazing into my grey eyes in wonder that took me aback.

She did not scream. She was not afraid; I would have detected it. Her eyes darted to each of mine and now taking in my unearthly features. No doubt my pale skin gave some indication that I was different along with the chill of my body that gave her no comfort of warmth.

''You're mine now. ''I say rising in the air. I floated towards the window and opened it with ease. I drifted out into the heat of the night.

My intended clung to me. She buried her face in my neck and hair. I sighed to the warmth and the minty freshness of her breath. Her chosen perfume was sensible and smelled heavenly clean and fresh. But her human scent was the best yet. Her blood, just underneath in layers of skin was singing to me. But I will not take her, she must be ready for me.

She has much to learn from me. I will give her time enough to decide and give her a chance that I never had. A choice. Not much of one but nevertheless she will be mine or die.

I flew to my rented apartment. It was a modest flat, but it was the best I could do for now. Later I will procure a collection of wealth from my vault in the National Bank. But for now, this will have to do.

It was unexpected, her demeanor. She was unnaturally calm for being in her present situation, that pleased and delighted me. Such a prize I had chosen.

When we landed on the balcony, I made my way into the bedroom. I unceremoniously dropped her on the bed. She looked up at me with a curious manner mixed with apprehension.

''Now let me introduce myself, I am the vampire Lestat. ''
