Chapter One

As I stepped out of the cold spray of water I quickly dried myself and got dressed. Pulling my hair roughly out of my face, I rushed down my steps and out into my grassy yard wearing nothing but a breezy tank top, and loose shorts. I walked directly to the decorative stone garden and dug right below the only black stone in there, yanking out my gun and its silencer. I quickly twisted the silencer into place as I watched birds fly low about 15 feet ahead. I squared my shoulders, aiming at a blue jay, watching its wings flutter. It was serene and had no worry in the world. Chirping lightly it perched on a tree directly beside it; this blue jay reminded me of all my victims. It believed it was on top of the world it had no worries- no idea that its life was about to be taken. I lowered my gun as I saw the Blue Jay near a nest gently leaning over it, as if feeding its young. I quickly changed my route and aimed at a darker bird. With one jerk of my finger I shot it, the bird quickly dropped to the floor. “May you rest in peace” I whispered as I put my gun down.

I felt the need to combat, feel my muscle strain and relax, my mind constantly rushing upon a new maneuver, the satisfaction of someone surrendering under your hands. But since no one was here to spar with I dropped the gun rushing to my shed pulling out a couple of solid wooden boards- five. I jabbed them deep into the dirt around me so they could stand straight up. Creating a circle around me with the boards, I placed my hands into a prayer position, taking a deep breath and bowing to each board. Then I began kicking out, punching, unnecessarily ducking, round house kicking- I let it all out. And as the boards crumbled around me, each one going down, something was building up in me, dying to be released. As I hit the last board it pushed out- a scream so loud if B.L.A.C.K didn’t know my whereabouts before- they did now. I screamed and screamed and screamed until my voice cracked and my throat could no longer produce sound.

If I heard this sound anywhere else, from anyone else’s mouth I would have sworn they were in undeniable pain- but me, I didn’t know pain, it was nothing but a noun. As I bent over and panted, pushing the outburst to the back of my mind I heard it, a floor board creak from inside the cabin. My head snapped up, he was here. They were here. I rushed forward to grab my gun only to discover it wasn’t there.

“Looking for this?” I looked up into green eyes, and a smug smirk. I quickly got off my knees and jumped back. “Hello, Young Master Marks.” I said coldly, I showed him no sign of him having the upper hand. His smirk faltered, and for a second my chest tightened. I ignored it- knowing it held no meaning. He checked the gun- I knew there would be only one bullet in there, and a quick once over showed that he had no gun of his own. My hopes lifted, “Hmm, one bullet- One shot.” He shrugged his shoulders, “Good enough for me.” I didn’t reply just smiled brightly, we both knew this wouldn’t be easy. His breath hitched, and I quickly relaxed my smile. Next to me there was a large splintered board, eh it’ll do. I waited for him to take a step and kicked the board towards his legs he jumped last minute leaving him open so I hit him with a kick to his ribs- he quickly dropped the gun, swinging out with a punch to my collar bone. I took the hit, ignoring the light throbbing and swiftly hit him right behind the knees, he quickly dropped but swung out his legs to try to kick my feet out from under me- I jumped back only to be hit by his fist square in the stomach.

The air left me in a rush but I recovered quickly rolling over to my side and standing up rapidly- he was on his feet too and we were circling each other each waiting for the other to make his move. “Still have those firm little legs I see.” His gaze raked down my legs. This caught me by surprise and I froze for less than a second, but that was all he needed he stepped in swinging with his elbow hitting me right in the temple. The world went blurry momentarily but I saw the gun glinting in the sun and went straight for it. Marks noticed my distraction and rushed for it too but I kicked his feet out from under him- and breathed a sigh of relief as my hand clamped around the chilled grip of the gun. I turned just as he was getting up and pressed the gun to his head.

“Well I know this is terribly cliché but- Any last words?” I said smugly.

He chuckled and my stomach fluttered. Lilo, I whispered mentally to myself. “Well I did forget how fast you were.”

I let out a sigh, “Such a poor choice of last words. Shame you had to go like this, your quite exceptional in bed, Lover boy.” Again he chuckled, it was warm and welcoming. Don’t do this to yourself Lilo.

“Shame, even after you kill me, you won’t make it out of here alive. My entire unit is outside of this place. They’re waiting just in case you make it out of here. Such a waste.” His gaze raked up my body slowly, searing a path of heat behind it.

My laugh came out strained, and his gaze quickly landed on my face- he licked his lips slowly.

I shrugged my shoulders; his unit meant nothing to me. In turn he also shrugged his shoulders. “Shoot me.”

I froze not expecting this. Do it Lilo. I clicked the hammer back- placing my finger against the trigger, swallowing roughly. Do it damnit! My hand shook. Come on!

He laughed, shaking his head, “It was stupid of you to fall in love.” And with that he kicked my legs out from under me and ran leaping over my fence. And I no longer had any fight left in me. Love? Psht, no such thing. I can’t feel pain.
