The boys were at the fair, Arthur had left very early that morning, kissing his girls on the head, while they laid in bed. Lily had been feeling ill for the last few days, so Bee was going to keep her home from school.
Hearing frantic knocking on the door, Bee pecked Lily on the head before pushing herself up and out of bed. The knocking got louder, causing the mother to yell out "I'm coming, I'm coming!"
Finally reaching the door, Phoebe tore it open to reveal one of the blinders young sons staring up at her. "What is it?" she asked, much nicer as the boy couldn't be more than eight years old. People could call Bee a bitch, but they could never deny that she loved children.
"The-The inspector," he panted, "He raided houses, trying to say that the Peaky Blinders allowed it."
"Thank you for telling me," Bee took a deep breath so she wouldn't snap at the boy or scare him, "'Head on home, and tell your father he'll be getting a pay raise." The holes in the boys shoes made it obvious they needed it.
After sending the boy on his way, Bee turned around and walked back to her bed room. Lily had fallen asleep, so the mother began to quietly get ready for the day, where she would have to do damage control.
......
After ringing the family's sitter, Caitlyn, and asking her to watch Lillian for the day, Bee finally made her way out of the house.
Taking a guess that Polly may be at the church, Phoebe headed that way. She slowly walked through the doors, making the sign of the cross as she moved. Entering the main hall, Bees eyes widened at Polly kissing Inspector Campbell.
Clearing her throat at the two, Bee raised her eyebrows and glanced between the two. "Sorry, I misunderstood your intention when you pushed me against the wall."
Campbell moved towards the side door, and opened it, gesturing for some men to come in. "Turn the place upside down," his voice echoed. Then he walked towards Phoebe, "You and your husband said you would help us."
"Did we? I don't remember either of us saying that?" Phoebe shrugged her shoulders.
"But I have found subsequently, that I was speaking to the wrong man. Next time, I want to talk to the boss," He began to walk away, "Lickey Tea Rooms. Friday, ten o'clock. And when I say "the boss" I mean Thomas."
"Thank god, I didn't want to have to talk to him again," Bee sighed, "Lily's sick at home, so you and I get to spend the day fixing up all this shit."
"Sounds like every day." Pol latched onto her arm, and they exited the building.
......
"Pol, Bee what the bloody hell happened?" John shouted, entering the house. The two women were sat in the dining room having tea. They knew the boys would be home soon.
Waiting until everyone was in the room, Phoebe began, Arthur coming to stand behind her chair and peck her on the head. "Raid, said Arthur and I gave them permission to when we were arrested."
"And that the Peaky Blinders had cleared out to the fair to let them do it." Polly added.
"We never said nothing to that copper about smashing up bloody houses." Arthur grumbled.
"All right. Which pubs did they do?" Tommy asked the two women.
"The Guns."
"The Chain."
"The Marquis."
The girls alternated listing., "All the ones that pay you to protect them. Only one they didn't touch was the Garrison. Make sure people think we're in on it. He's smart this copper."
Lightning up her cigarette, Bee leaned back more into Arthur. She wished she was still on bed with Lillian and not dealing with this bullshit. "All right up, come on," Bee encouraged, "Get out there. Help little old ladies carry their couches or whatever."
"I'll see you later on," Bee muttered to Arthur, "Lillian will be out like a light tonight." Before she pushed him out the doorway, quickly closing the doors.
"Now Thomas," Bee twisted around, "I didn't quite like having to leave my sick child home today."
"We all know what they were looking for. You don't read the papers."
"Racing papers." Tommy corrected.
"I don't even want to hear this conversation." Bee stopped them, "Now my sitter needs to be home in ten minutes. Thomas, figure this shit out." She ordered, grabbing her coat and hat.
"I'll see you both later."
......
"Finn! What's going on now?" Bee asked her youngest brother in law. He had knocked frantically on her door.
"We're having a fire. Burning the kings portrait. Arthur wants you to come."
"Well I can't right now, since no ones here to check on Lily, but you tell Arthur to hurry back home," She instructed, before taking down the family's own portrait of the king, "Take this with you now. I'll tell Lil's you said hello."
After tucking Lily in and ensuring her medicine would knock her out, Bee went back to her and her husbands bedroom. Once Arthur walked through those doors, the night only had just begun.
......
Panting heavily, the married couple had just finished one of their longest going nights yet. As they both looked up at their bedroom ceiling, Bees eyes slowly shifted towards Arthur. "Do you want another baby?" she asked out of the blue.
Arthur stammered for a moment, not expecting that question, so Phoebe continued, "Lillian was a surprise, and you always make comments about having another, but I need to know if you're serious."
Taking a deep breath, Arthur nodded, "I am. Bee, you and I, we didn't start out like all the other couples, but now we got Lily, and I think we could use another little Shelby."
"You need to pull back on the drinking then," before he could stop her she continued, "I mean it Arthur, I can't do this with you passed out at the Garrison every other night"
"I'll try."
