Pulling up to the school parking lot, I couldn't believe Hunter was so bold to try to kill me here. Most likely they were gonna try to shove me into a car and take me elsewhere to try to kill me.
He pissed me off, but Hayley was right. I didn't have such a big head that I didn't believe there was a chance they would be able to kill me and Hayley would be right back where she started. Maybe even worse now.
Holding the phone to my ear, I stepped out the car. And sure enough a van came squealing as if from the shadows, pulling up next to me.
Hunter, half shifted with a twisted face hopped out first and moved to stand before me. Two of his goon surrounding each side of me, walling me in in front of my car.
"Sorry to put you on hold, I had another call," Hunter's father was saying now. Hunter paused and cocked his head as he heard the voice that should be so familiar to him coming from my phone.
"That's ok sir, I'm actually here with Hunter now, here, I'll let you talk to him," I smirked at the look on Hunter's face, the shock, fear and then the anger before I passed the phone.
Hunter stared down at it as if it were cockroach I was trying to hand to him, before snatching the phone.
"Yes Father, I understand," he finally spoke after a moment before handing back the phone.
"Welcome to the pack Cayden, glad to have you. I won't be there but Hunter will see you at the next meeting."
"Thank you sir," I said before we said our goodbyes, trying to hold back a laugh at the looks on all their dumb faces.
"So, she gave you my dads number. How clever you two must think you are," Hunter started to chuckle. Not a good sign. There didn't seem to be a look or air of defeat about him, but I knew this wouldn't solve more than me avoiding death. But it was never my life I was truly worried about. Just leaving a fellow omega behind in the hands of a monster this Hunter. He would only get worse with age. Like a rabid dog, he needed to be put down.
The cool night air kicked up a breeze around us as Hunter signaled for his buddies to leave. "Go home," he growled and looked down as he waited for the van to drive away, before looking back at me with a grin.
"Your life is spared, good for you, taking the cowards way out-" One side of his lip pulled up in a snarl.
"Coward? You came with a van full of wolves to take me on. Seems like you were too chicken shit to face me man to man," I felt myself shaking all over but it wasn't from the chill in the air nor from fear. He wanted to kill me, plotted it and was going to act it out tonight, ambushing me. If Hayley hadn't been able to reach me... it made me feel hot all over, I could see bursts of red in my vision and I knew I was close to shifting and ripping his head off.
"You peasants don't get it, people like me don't need to get their hands dirty. But you'll understand now, you're in my pack, you go by my rules. You've been spared thanks to my girlfriend, you know the one you're trying to steal from me? But don't you worry pup, I'll just have to remind her who she belongs to every single night after pack meeting."
A deep rumble sounded in the night air and I soon realized I was growling low in my throat, unable to stop it.
"Aht aht aht," he waved a finger at me like I was a disobedient puppy, "that's no way to treat your alpha," Hunter grinned before tapping his chin as I tried to stand very still, knowing I wanted to rip him to shreds. Now that I was apart of the pact if I hurt Hunter the whole pack would be at my fathers door. The whole eye for an eye thing wolves go by. "You know," he began. "This couldn't have worked out better, the only time I'm away from my dear Hayley, is pack meetings. Now you'll be there with me. No more teaching her after school, no more secret meetings. Just her to myself once again. Thank you, dumbass. It seems this situation is over," Hunter started to turn away as my blood ran cold, my anger vanished and it felt as if someone had dumped an ice bucket of water on top of my head.
"Wait," I called, steeping forward, hearing the crunch of a fallen leaf underneath my shoe as I did so. Dammit don't beg Don't do it! "You're right," I began, clenching my fists at the words. "We won't see each other anymore. So please, don't take it out on her. She's a good person, just treat her right."
"Heh, from where I'm standing she's a slut who opened her legs for the new guy in town, not very nice of her huh?"
"It's not her fault, I -" I paused, what could I say? I had to make sure he wasn't going to rush home and beat the shit out of her. Or what he implied earlier. Moon above I couldn't even think about it, if I did I'd rip his head off right now.
Hunter snapped his head to look back at me. "You forced her didnt you ? You made her submit," he looked at me with almost - hope?- no that couldn't be it.
I wanted to scream out that I'd never do something so heinous.
But if I said I did, the blame would be on me. Not her. And Hunter would never go around admitting Hayley was omega, it would mean fighting off every were in town. The chance for a wolf, a female one at that, to have for themselves who'd do anything they asked? Yeah huge mistake on his part if he told.
And he couldn't tell everyone I raped her or anything like that, they all ask why didn't she just shift and take off.
So it was no harm, only good intentions when I told him what he wanted to hear.
"I smelled the omega stench on her, had one in my last pack, I knew she wouldn't be able to say no. But she did say no, she said she was with you. So I made her submit. It was only a kiss," I shrugged like it was no big deal. "I made her spend the night so what? I'm new to town just wanted a friend."
Hunter thought about this, I could see the wheels turning in his head. He wasn't stupid though, he looked like he wanted to believe it but knew better than to.
"She told me differently," he spat out in disgust.
She did? Happiness, even though a small amount started to bloom inside of me. "Probably because I told her what I'd do to her if she told, didn't want to be ran out of town. Look I don't care if you believe me, I need to get home anyway," I spun away to be able to say what I had to next without him seeing my expression "Keep your stupid omega bitch-" I nearly choked on the words. "Who wants someone so easy anyway." It was killing me and I couldn't control my facial expressions so I looked down and unlocked my car.
"Never be late to pack meetings and never go near Hayley again, and we will be square," Hunter gave me the parting command, "and that's an order from your leader," he growled before turning away.
I rolled my eyes knowing a lesser wolf would have an urge to follow command, not in the complete slave way a omega has to but a sense of pack duty in every wolf who belonged to one. Breaking free of my weak side, I no longer felt such loyalties to those I didn't want to feel loyal to. Pack life meant nothing to me.
My dad was my pack. And now, I would have Hayley in mine to. We would still train and now I knew she was an omega it was time to get serious about the mental part. The fighting would come later.
