13th century

"She's possessed. We need to kill her before the village discovers the truth"

His wife raised her head to look at him. The baby she's holding is incredibly calm, she has been since the day of her birth, a week before that moment. The mother looks down to her and holds her child tight against her chest. The coldness of the baby' skin does not seem to bother her, it only bothered the father. He did not want to believe that the child he thought they brought to the world was a monster. A creature born to defeat the Gods and rule Earth.

"We will leave her in one of the caves in the morning," states the father firmly.

Then, the man leaves the house without any remorses.

The moon was high in the sky and the husband did not come back. The woman had many hours to think about what he said, and she couldn't accept it. She wouldn't let him kill her own, and only, child. And yet, she wouldn't be able to leave the community she grew up in. The woman knew that if she left with the baby, her husband would go after her to kill them. She had no other choice than leave her child to the Gods.

The wind was stirring up the woman's hair as she was running toward the sea. She knew that there was only one person who would be able to protect her daughter, and it was God himself. When the woman arrived on the cliff, far away from her village, she fell to her knees out of breath.

"Odin! I call upon you and your mercy! Protect my only child! Protect her like you protected your own sons!"

Bolts of lightning ran across the sky and rain started pouring on the woman and her baby who remained silent and eyes closed.

"I beg you, my King! Protect her!" Shouts the woman as she held her daughter above her head.

Tears falling on her cheeks, the mother knew she was gonna regret her action, but she didn't have another choice. It was either abandoning her child to her God or be associate of her death.

And as the lightning multiplied, the mother walked to the end of the cliff still holding her baby in the air. The woman looked down at the sea crashing against the rocks and started sobbing. She had to do it; she didn't want to, but she had to.

Taking a deep breath, the mother finally let her child fall in the water.

"Protect her please!!" Yell the woman while falling to her knees.

The mother remained on the cliff, crying until she was found by her peers a week after the incident. She was dead.

But what the woman ignored, before she fell in Hell, was that her daughter was rescued as she begged for. When the baby hit the water, a warm hand grabbed her and looked at her small baby's face. The man with golden hair kept looking at the baby, wondering what he would do with her. He knew that the creature inside her would one day wake up and destroy everything on the planet. In the universe. He knew what monster it was, and he also knew that one day he'll run back to them. But he also knew that her destiny could change, that maybe she would save everyone from the Ragnarök.

And so, he decided to keep her alive, but far away from his people.

When he and the baby arrived on the cold land of the Arctic, he thought that this realm would maybe be enough to keep her safe. To keep everyone safe. And just like that, Odin decided to leave the child on the cold and quiet place that was the North Pole.

Right before ordering Heimdall to bring him back, Odin looked at the child who kept her eyes shut. For a second, he considered bringing her back with him, to keep an eye on her. But he knew he couldn't. He knew this mistake must never be made again. And so, Odin left this idea behind him as he was brought back to his realm.

However, he wasn't the only one looking after the little child. As soon as Odin was far away from Earth, another God who heard the woman's begging approached the baby. Hodur kneeled to get a closer look to the girl and a smirk appeared on his face. He put his hand on the naked baby's chest and gifted her with powers stronger than what Odin could ever have given her; winter.

And darkness.
