The following monday, the team entered the BAU with tired eyes. Alex yawned into her cup of coffee as she slumped into her chair. Spencer and Derek were standing by Emily's desk, who was sitting back in her chair, when Spencer glanced over to Alex.
"Long weekend?" he chuckled. Truth was, there was no such thing. Two days will never be a long enough break, especially with this job, and especially not now, with her practically being a live-in maid for Ryan. None of that really mattered though, because Spencer was just asking to be polite, so she just smiled back at him and nodded. Ever since that night at the bar, her and Spencer have slowly started becoming friends. Neither of them really realized it before, but they have a lot in common.
The small talk didn't last long though, when JJ quickly entered the bullpen with a stack of case files clutched to her chest.
"We got a case. It's a doozy," she sighed, and the rest of the team looked around at each other, Emily let out a quiet groan and Alex tilted her head back tiredly.
They took their seats in the conference room, and JJ passed out the case files. Francesca Gomez, taken early Thursday morning from her apartment in Los Angeles and hasn't been found yet.
"What makes this a BAU case?" Morgan asked, opening up the file folder.
"Well... there are 12 other open missings with similar MO's just from past 4 months alone."
"This guy's been busy," Morgan said.
"How do we know it's the same unsub?" Emily asked.
"The LAPD received a note from the unsub, and attached in a ziplock bag were strands of the victims' hair. 13 different stands, each belonging to a different victim."
Everyone's eyes widened.
"What did the note say?" Reid glanced up from the case file.
"Good luck trying to save them." JJ recited.
"They're all upper-middle class brunette women," Emily said, reading from the case file.
"How do you abduct 13 women from their homes without being seen in one of the busiest cities in the U.S?" Alex asked.
"I don't know, but if no bodies have turned up, then we have to assume these women are still alive and our window for finding them is closing quickly. Wheels up in 20," Hotch said, rising out of his seat and adjusting his coat.
As everyone was grabbing their go-bags and preparing for the flight, JJ pulled Alex to the side.
"Hotch wanted to see you in his office before we leave."
"Oh, alright," she nodded, and made her way to Hotch's office. She knocked softly on the already cracked open door.
"Come in," Hotch said while hunched under his desk, pulling out his go-bag. "Take a seat." He motioned towards the chair that sat across from his desk. Alex slowly sat, trying to recount anything she might've done that she could possibly be getting in trouble for. With Hotch you can never really tell, his face is always the same. Plain and serious.
"Is something wrong, sir?" She asked.
"No, not at all," he paused, but kept his stern look on his face. "You've been here at the BAU over a year now, and you've done some exceptional work."
"Thank you, sir."
"I just needed to talk to you about this next case. I understand that you have extensive experience with undercover work?"
"Um, yes sir."
Back at the Florida field office, Alex worked primarily as an undercover agent. She had to be around a lot of sickos, but she didn't mind as long as that meant she would catch them, and she always did. She used to love going undercover, because it was almost like acting, which was Alex's second dream, next to joining the Bureau. She was good at it too, they almost always went to her when they needed someone.
