She sat in Forensics class, just 16 years old, her black rimmed glasses sliding down the bridge of her nose as she desperately copied down notes from the board as her teacher taught about the stages of body decomposition. She felt something hit the back of her head, and she saw a piece of folded notebook paper hit the ground. She leaned down and grabbed it, unraveling it to reveal a note. A note from Ryan, who was sitting in the back of the class.
"You look cute when you're writing :)"
She smiled down at the note, her heart feeling like it had grown a little bit in size. Like sooner or later, it would grow too big for her chest and burst open. Her cheeks grew pink, and she folded the paper and stuck it in the front cover of her binder.
Her and Ryan were a lovely couple at first. Just two kids in love. Sure, like any high school couples, there were fights, misunderstandings, moments of immaturity. But they were in love. They'd walk each other to classes, make out under the stairwell, eat lunch together, go out after school, et. He'd pick her up on Friday nights for a date, and she'd come out of the house all dressed up, butterflies fluttering inside her stomach. There was no one else for her.
And here she sits, across the table from the "love of her life," who just asked her to marry him.
"Yes!" She said, reaching across the table and grabbing his hands, smiling.
She just got engaged, though there were no butterflies fluttering around. She didn't feel her heart expand, or her cheeks grow pink.
The next day, Ryan and her went shopping for a ring and at the end of night she got home with a rock on her finger. How Ryan could afford it, she had no idea, but as she laid in bed that night she stared at her finger in contemplation.
The elevator doos opened and Spencer walked into the BAU the same as every day, tired but ready to challenge the day. He approached his desk but couldn't help but to turn to see everyone huddled around Alex's desk. He laid his satchel down on his chair and walked over to see what the fuss was about. He peered over Derek and Penelope to see Alex holding out her left hand, and Emily examining the ring that sat snuggly on her ring finger. He crinkled his eyebrows in confusion.
"Who's is that?" he asked, and everyone responded with a chuckle, though he wasn't joking.
"Ryan, um... he proposed last night," Alex said lifting her eyebrows.
"Oh... wow! that's uh... congratulations!" was all that he could say, before dragging back to his desk. Well, there was his answer.
Of course that kiss meant nothing, she's a professional undercover agent, she was just doing her job.
Alex looked past Emily, Derek, Penelope, and JJ, wondering where Reid was going. But she quickly snapped out of it when she heard Garcia ask her a question.
"Huh?" Alex turned to Garcia.
"I said, how did he ask you? Was it like super romantic? Oh, I bet it was!" She went on.
Alex chuckled, but was interrupted before she could tell the story.
Thank God.
