Throughout the years of me being in America, I've never been able to do that well in school. I've always had help from others or had someone do the work for me, especially the nerds.

It's not that I wasn't trying to understand it in the beginning, it's just no matter how hard I tried it never came to me and that's when I got other people to do the work for me.

I did have a type of academic talent though, and that was my ability to pick up different languages pretty quickly.

I first taught myself Italian, Portuguese, and French since they are very similar languages to Spanish.

I then got fascinated with the different cultures and the languages themselves. So I decided I wanted to travel once I got older and out of respect I'd learn the native language of the land.

After became fluent in those, I wanted to challenge myself so I moved onto Asian languages.

I learned Mandarin first, then Japanese and Vietnamese. And that left me with the most challenging one personality, which was Korean. The Korean alphabet (Hangul) to me was very hard but I overcame that with months of studying.

The Korean language was the most pleasant sounding language to my ears so I decided to look into their culture more to see what their traditions were. I found out they have dramas they call "K-dramas" and main stream pop music called "K-pop"

The actors in the k-dramas are much better actors then the ones here in America. And besides Spanish music that my mom would blast as she was cleaning the house on Saturdays, I've never listened to any music then what is played in America.

So I was fascinated with the k-pop music they have there. The music was so catchy and it was especially cool to hear rapping in another.

Then I got more into Korean rap, and I found out about the underground rap industry when I was 17.

I was so intrigued by what they rapped because it wasn't your typical "drugs and alcohol" spew.

They rapped about their lives and their struggles while growing up and I could actually relate to some of it.

When I started listening to Korean rap everyone said it was dumb because "you can't even understand what they are saying."

I mean I could but I just decided not to argue with xenophobic people.

So I got into a group called Epik High, and two other solo rappers. They went under names of Nakseo, and Gloss.

I liked Gloss and his raps the most, so I decided to do some investigating to learn more about him.

I found some videos people recorded of his performances and I was just in awe of his stage presence.

The way he performed showed how much passion he had for his art and something just drew me to him.
