knowing that their coach was in a good mood, the whole of the volleyball team were completely terrified. he kept calling out positive encouragement that creeped out everyone, including the normally rational members [read : ohira reon]. unlike his normal, borderline abusive style of coaching, washjiou couldn't help but be enthusiastic about the new member.
"decent set, shirabu!"
"good block, tendou!"
"you're doing alright for once, goshiki!"
it honestly scared them more than when he was aggressive and shouting at them, so it was unanimously voted to find out the source of the coach's happiness. tendou was convinced that the coach had been possessed, ohira thought that he had finally gone senile in his old age [not that he actually said that; he was afraid that coach washijou would overhear him] and goshiki thought that he had been replaced with a clone.
"hey, wakatoshi-kun is still missing." hummed tendou as they started their stretches. normally, the pair would stretch together but as the ace wasn't present, tendou decided to annoy "semisemi" instead. the setter groaned.
"thank you, tendou-kun, it's almost like you haven't said that five times already."
"well, semisemi, can't i be worried about poor waka-chan? he might be hurt!" the irony to the guess monster's words was that whilst ushijima wasn't hurt, he was experiencing types of things that he hadn't before and that hurt him emotionally. the ace's emotional growth had been heavily influenced by his father's departure and ushijima found it difficult to express what he was feeling in a healthy manner.
"tendou! get back to diving receives!" shouted the coach, his mood faltering slightly before returning with full force. the 193cm boxer would be joining their practice today! how could washijou not be happy? when looking at his physique, the coach had noted the impressive amount of muscle mass yun had on his body; his arms were defined and held substantial strength along with his toned legs and, presumably, strong core.
"but, coach, wakatoshi-kun isn't here! isn't it bad for the ace and captain to slack off?" asked tendou with a small, almost unnoticeable pout forming on his lips. the red head would never admit, but he was feeling rather lonely without his self-proclaimed best friend with him. even if the ace didn't speak much, tendou liked the solemn vibe that surrounded ushijima and the brutal honesty he spoke with.
"yes, i know, but he'll be here soon with a potential new member." washijou looked around at the disbelieving faces which occupied the gym and smirked both internally and externally. even the managers were in shock; they had stopped filling up the water bottles to gape at the coach's announcement.
"WHAT?!" the collective cry filled the gym like a tsunami and violently crashed through the doors so even the track and field team who were practicing outside could hear the indignant yell. ohira and semi stared at the coach with their mouths wide open not making a sound, whilst tendou, shirabu and goshiki spluttered in indignation. kawanishi and yamagata looked at the coach in disbelief and then at each other in shock, their expressions contorting in surprise.
"wait, coach! you actually took ushijima's suggestion?!" cried semi, his eyes frantically darting around the gym to see what the other's thought. if it was true that meant that the famed delinquent, itsuki yun was actually going to join them! semi saw that tendou, ohira and shirabu also realised who was going to be joining them as their eyes widened in horror.
