Harleen sat in her cell silently. She spent each day and night mumbling about her former master. "Mistah J, please, come for me." Over and over again she pleaded in silence but to no avail. The poor soul was only 18. During her conversion she had been mentally broken, she depended on someone to keep her sane. Someone to confide in. Without that she'd be left with her thoughts. That was a dangerous thing.
She was alerted by a knock on her cell. She looked up with hopes that Joker had come for her. But no. It was Jerry the guard. "You got guests." Said Jerry. Harley willed herself to move and exited the cell a long with the guard.
She was placed in an interrogation room. A man entered. Bulk body, skin tight suit, flaming beard. She identified him as Endeavour. "So your the infamous Harley Quinn. Your younger than I was expecting." He started. "And your Endeavour, your just as ugly as I pictured you." She insulted with a low chuckled. Offended, Endeavour slammed his hand onto the table leaving a hand print burned into the wood. "I don't have time for this, you have been selected to be the 5th initiate of the Villain Rehabilitation Program." Endeavour claimed in a serious tone. She perked up. "Never..." She said softly. "What was that?" He thundered. "Never, I won't betray my puddin!" She declared. Endeavour was about to slap her when he was stopped. "Endeavour, I advise you leave the room." Izuku suggested. He was using sound waves to prevent him from attacking. Endeavour mumbled something about villains and left.
Izuku took a seat. "Good to see you Harleen." He greeted. "Hey Jazzy." She returned with a bit more energy. "I have bad news and good news. Which you wanna hear first?" He asked. "Bad news."
"The Joker is dead."
"What?"
"Joker, he was killed by policemen two days ago."
She shed tears of joy and sadness. "Finally that Bastard deserves it... no no no puddin. He should've died slowly.... he's gone. I can believe he's gone. I could've help but nooo I'm a dime a dozen.... why didn't I help him...." She switched between grieving and loathing the man. Harleen Quinnzel was coming back to reality and Harley Quinn was fighting it.
She composed herself and asked, "what's the good news?" "If you accept the offer you get to live with me while you learn how to re-enter society. You won't have to wear a collar or anklet." Izuku responded. "I... I.... anything to get me out of here. I'll do it Jazzy!" She cheered. Bipolar much.
"Excellent, we leave immediately. A change of clothes will be provided. I remember you wanted to become a Psychiatrist and took online classes right?" He queried. "Yeah. While i was a Hero in training. Top of my class. Why?" "Because we have the perfect outfit.
She was lead outside of the room by Izuku. A suitcase was presented. Izuku dawned his glasses and turned his back to her. After making sure be couldn't see she began to strip. She re-clothed herself in a red shirt, pencil skirt and a lab coat. Typical female psychiatrist attire.
Lab coat is longer. It goes down to her knees.
"Damn I look good!" She boasted. Izuku turned and inspected. He mentally agreed. His eyes roamed her body until... "Ahem, my eyes are up here Jazzy." She said. Izuku, knowing that she could in fact not see his eyes played it cool. "I have no idea what your talking about. Anyway we must leave. Do you wished for your name to be changed?" "No. Harleen Quinnzel will stand as a testament to a strong female. I mean Harley Quinn is fine." She corrected. Again her personalities were at war. It wasn't as if she had D.I.D but she does have issues identify who she is.
Is she the crazy, fun loving Harley Quinn or the calm, level headed Harleen Quinnzel?
"Okay then. I guess we can clothes shopping then." He offered. "Why?" She asked curiously. "I live in a dorm apartment by myself and I'm single. Why would I have a girl's clothing?" He asked with a chuckle. "Cross dressing?" She asked playfully. "Fat chance. Come along."
The two walked on the room and into the main hall. He nodded in acknowledgement to those who passed. "If anyone asks just say you have a similar name to Harley Quinn." Izuku whispered. "Won't they eventually run my file?" "As of now your crimes are listed under Harley Quinn. For all we know, Harleen Quinnzel simply moved away." He added. "Okay Jazzy!" She giggled. Now this was the very definition of Mixed signals.
They roamed the streets in silence. They had quite a ways until the mall. "Jazzy." She called. "Yes?" He responded. "Have you.... Have you ever had a dream where you do something you know you'll regret? Then when you wake up it turns out it's actually reality?" She questioned. "Yes. Sometimes." "I think that's how I feel about villainy. I was doing it all to please him.... him!...him....him....him.... *sob* I can't help *sob* but think that he deserved death but part of me still misses him." She admitted. It hadn't even been an hour since she had gotten the news and it seemed she was gonna have a melt down. "Harleen, we all get attached to someone and try to please them. But sometimes we get attached to the wrong people. It's a natural part of life." He comforted. He wiped her tears with a handkerchief and held her hand. "Do you think I can become who I once was?" Harley asked him as she stared into his void like gaze. He removed his glasses and stared. "No... I think you'll become someone better."
"Thanks Jazzy." She replied gratefully. They passed a pair of elderly women. "What a lovely couple." One of the mentioned. The two quickly released the other from his or her grip. Harley blushed while Izuku kept a straight face. Underneath that hardened exterior though he longed to hold her hand again.
Soon they arrived at the mall. "Alright. Forever 22. Pick anything." Izuku encouraged. "Oh my god thanks Jazzy!" She quickly ran off and started checking out clothes for house wear. She soon found a white shirt, monochromatic hoodie and jeans shorts. She tried them on. "What'd you think, am I sexy or what?" She asked striking a pose. "Well you didn't give an option for the ' or what' part so I'll keep my mouth shut" Izuku joked. She rolled her eyes and re-dressed into her 'work clothes'.
She later stumbled upon a green hoodie and khaki shorts. Then some ripped jeans and a blue short sleeved cardigan. After finding some personal items -girls only- they went to check out. "¥2000 please" the cashier said. Izuku handed her two ¥1000 bills. "Thanks for shopping at Forever 22! Have a nice day!"
They exited. "Sorry for spending your money." She apologized. "No worries. That's what friends are for." He said happily. "You consider me a friend?" "Ever since I found out who you were and we began talking more and more, I've come to see you as a friend." Izuku told her. "Feeling's mutual." She commented. "Anyway I can repay you?" She asked. "You don't need to." "I want to!" She shouted with an inside voice. "Still...." Izuku dragged. "I'll make you dinner!" She offered. "Okay. Fine."
Izuku signalled a cab and headed home with an ex villain.
