(Y/n)'s POV

It was a bright sunny morning, the sakura blossoms were in full bloom, gently swaying in the light wind and the Kanroji Estate's youngest daughter was giving an announcement at the front of the estate, she recently came of age to get married but her earlier marriage arrangement fell through, due to this she dyed her hair black and ate a lot less, so little in fact that her fainting became a regular occurrence, she told many lies and tried to appear weak, all of us are worried about her but she kept insisting that she was okay.

Many people gathered in front of the estate, mostly men looking to marry Mitsuri, it sickened me to know that she was sacrificing her own wellbeing for these dimwits, I wish she would listen to me and stop this madness, if she kept this up she might accidentally starve herself to death but she kept telling me that she would be alright, I sighed taking a seat of the porch and peering over all the people that had gathered.

One of Mitsuri's many pretenders Obanai Iguro was also there, I had to admit, he was attractive, I wouldn't be surprised if he got picked to be her fiancé, of course I would never be picked, two girls marrying was unheard of and probably impossible at that, the fact that she's going to give a test to all her pretenders to see who she'll pick probably means her father put her up to this to marry her off.

I sighed going back to cleaning the estate's floors, I'll probably have to start setting up preparations for the wedding soon, a few seconds later Mitsuri came outside and faced the crowd, clearing her throat and petting something nestled in her arms and kimono before speaking.

"Um, as you may know I recently came of age and am at the age to get married, uh, my previous marriage arrangement fell through so I figured since there's a lot of guys that asked for my hand in marriage since then that I'd give you all a test to see who I should marry " she nervously started, uncovering the thing in her arms before continuing "So, uh, after thinking about it I decided that the test would be to open the front door of my estate with the key around this cat's neck" she said, holding up the midnight feline so the crowd could get a good look at it "I'll be letting her go in a bit and uh good luck!" with that she retreated into the estate, leaving a confused crowd behind.

Murmurs rang out in the courtyard, no one understood why this of all things would be the test but they didn't have much time to ponder since a few minutes later a black cat emerged from a crack in the door and ran away, the people in the crowd, still confused but knowing what to do to get Mitsuri's hand in marriage, chased after the cat, pushing whoever was around them out of the way and trampling over eachother, rushing away from the estate and out of my sight.

Timeskip

That afternoon, in the now yellow tinted sky, the sun was beginning it's descent, sweat dripped down my cheeks, my kimono's sleeves damp from wiping it off multiple times and the rag I've been using to wipe down the floors' own moisture, finally I finished with the porch for the week, with a quiet cheer and a soft sigh I decided to take a break.

I sat on the porch of the Kanroji estate pondering who would be able to complete Miss Kanroji's task, Obanai probably could, he was a very fast and cunning guy so catching a cat probably wouldn't be too hard for him, maybe that's what Miss Kanroji was intending, she probably knew that no one else would be able to catch the cat, she's too kind to tell all the others that she wasn't interested so she most likely made this mock-test to get this over with.
