Yura's POV

For a brief moment I stare at her, processing the words she spoke. I can see how much pain she's in. Every time she tries to speak her tongue starts to feel like it's on fire, is what she's told me. The more she tries to talk the more it hurts.

She says she was born that way and she also says that I am the only person she'll even try to talk to because out of all the people here... She trusts the one she's supposed to hate the most.

And now I finally understand why. It takes me a moment to remember how to speak again myself.

" Why? How?.... How could you have fallen in love with someone like me...Even if my ancestor didn't ruin-"

" Because....I felt....something when we....locked eyes for the....first time..." She wheezes barely managing to get the words out, her normally quiet and raspy voice barely even audible.

" Love at first sight is just for the fairy tales..."

" May-Maybe...so but...you-your denial is obvious...You..feel the same...way...admit it...."

I continue to stare at her, or rather in her direction anyway. My mind goes somewhere else as I attempt to figure out how she guessed my true feelings.

" I've..always been..good at reading....others...minds...I just choose not to....most..of..the time... "

" You need to stop talking before I purposefully break your eardrums and beat you till you're senseless..You've done quite enough..."

" You...can't see in here....This is the..only way..w-we can communicate. "

" I guess it is..." I concede, no matter how much I want her to stop talking before she burns her tongue so bad she loses any ability to talk at all. " Hang on, I'll get you some more water if we're going to keep talking like this... "

" First...admit to...your...feelings...you can't escape the...topic forever. No matter if...your...intentions are...genuine... "

" Fine...I fell in love with you when we locked eyes. Can I go get you some water now? "

" Yes..."

As soon as I enter my office, I check the computer on my desk only to find a report from the leader of the JSDF mentioning that the Legion have been completely wiped out. At least in Japan anyway..There might still be some in other parts of the world and they could start infecting more people and continuing the war.

Not to mention, White Chlorination Syndrome doesn't just turn people into the Legion but it can also turn someone into a statue that looks like it's made of salt. No one knows what determines who turns into a salt statue or who turns into a Legion, except for maybe Cereza but it's not like she would ever tell anybody.

Whatever the case, White Chlorination Syndrome is still a thing and as long as that's the case, the Legion could return.

I shut down my computer for the night, grab a small water bottle from the mini fridge and return to Cereza's room.

" I have some good news..for once.. " I hand her the bottle of water.

" What is it? " She asks me, her voice already more audible after a single sip of water.
