We run out of Hudson Yards and it feels like we are running on raw energy.
I feel like I could take on 10 muggers and still have energy to spare. Holding hands with Tom Felton around New York City makes me feel like I am in a dream. I never want to wake up.
"Should we try the vet?" he asks.
I nod and Google what the closest vet to us is.
I inspect Peaches' nametag, but I don't see any additional tags with a number sequence. Not quite sure how to search for a chip so I call the local vet. They tell me to come over, call when I get there, and if I wait outside someone will come out to scan for a chip.
I am a little nervous, Peaches is now 100% part of this unexpected little trio and I want him with me forever, but I know his owner must miss him.
"No chip," the tech says. "You have some options: you can try filling an application online and see if it gets any hits against anyone who's declared their pet missing, or you can drop him at a shelter and they will try to find the owner."
At the end of that sentence, I pull Peaches closer and cover his ears. Tom lets out an adorable chuckle in my direction. Then he looks up to the tech and says:
"No, I think we will try social media. But thank you for your help!'
As we're walking away, holding hands, I look up at him:
"We'll use social media? But I thought-"
"Yes, I know. Before we burst the incognito Tom and Charli bubble we have to do two more things."
"We do?"
He stops walking and looks at me.
"Yes!"
"Two things?" I try to guess what those are but my mind is blank.
"Yup! I want to take you somewhere now."
"Oh?"
"Have dinner with me?" he blurts out.
I blush immediately. This man has seen me run after a mad thief on a bike and cry ugly, fat tears. He has also given me the best kiss of my life and yet a dinner date still makes me anxious.
"Ok...dinner."
He nods and starts walking again.
"Wait! You said two-" I start running after him.
Before he can answer me, I start panicking.
"Wait -- if we're going out for dinner, I need to change. Oh but I literally don't have keys to my apartment. I could call my super and try it like that..." I look up at him and notice he is smiling.
"Is that a yes?" he smiles expectantly.
"Uhm yes, I think. If I can figure out getting back into my apartment.'
"You don't need your apartment!"
"I don't?!"
"We're going shopping!" he announces as he takes my hand and drags me after him.
"Are you crazy? I am not going to let you get me clothes for dinner..."
"Because?"
"Because it's weird..."
"Is it? You got mugged today and I did nothing to help. You have shown me around New York and protected my secret one day in the city regardless of the consequences. Let me do this for you...as a thank you."
I look at him but still am not sure about this...
"I promise this won't be weird. I will give you my card and a place to meet me at in 3 hours. We'll go downtown where all the fashion stores are. I will be around looking for a new outfit as well. So should you need me because they think you stole my card you can call me. Otherwise, have fun and meet me in front of Pier 25 at 7:30 pm." he beams and it's intoxicating how excited and happy he looks right now.
