Switch up week had come to a close and Bethany, Derek, Sadie, and Mark were hanging out backstage.

“So, Australia, huh?” Derek said. He was feeling a little anxious about this coming week since Bethany had work obligations, leaving them little time to rehearse.

“Yeah, but we’ll handle it.” Bethany flashed him a cheesy smile, “we’re gonna beat this because we’re motough than that.”

Derek laughed at her joke, and put his arm around her as Bethany leaned into his side for a quick hug. Sadie and Mark side-eyed each other, smirking.

“So, the kiss didn’t upset you too much, Derek?” Mark asked.

“Yeah, about that…” Derek said while he jokingly pound a fist into his palm. “We’ll talk about that.”

The group laughed. “Okay, but you’ll have to do that later because we really need to get going if we want to make our flight.” Bethany said.

“True. We’ll catch you guys when we get back.” Derek waved as he turned himself and Bethany around, his arm still around her shoulders.

“Bye!” Bethany called behind her.

“Don’t come back without a good story.” Mark said behind them, but neither Bethany or Derek paid attention to him.

Sadie turned to look at her partner, “you think there’ll be a story?”

Mark returned her look and said, “they’re gonna be on a plane for fourteen hours, and in an entirely different country with none of us around. Oh yes, there will definitely be a story.”

Sadie laughed and leaned onto Mark’s shoulder. “You’re crazy. But it’s good to have you back.”

“You, too.” Mark said, placing a hand on her knee, “now let’s go do some interviews.”

. . .

Derek drove the two of them to the airport, but the car ride was fairly silent. Whenever Derek asked, “are you sure you’re okay?”, Bethany just responded by saying she was tired, which was half true.

Her main reason for being so quiet was because she was thinking of the idea of her and Derek, and where those chances actually stood. Yeah, they both like each other, and it was huge weight off both of their shoulders once they cleared the air, but neither one had yet to initiate anything more.

Bethany concluded to herself that last night was just a mere coffee run between friends, considering that it only lasted fifteen minutes and he didn’t even take the opportunity to kiss her at the end.

Bethany was left not knowing what to feel, and since she hadn’t had anyone to talk about it to, she was going insane.

She was also unsure if she would even be able to handle a relationship with Derek. Bethany wasn’t entirely sure if she would want to go public with it, but being on a tv show where they would broadcast pretty much anything to get an audience, it was going to be really difficult to hold in the urge to kiss Derek during practices and on the show. Then, what about after Dancing With The Stars was over? As much as she loved her work, it always had her running around to different places. Would she be able to handle a long distance relationship?

Not having any answers, Bethany sighed deeply as she leaned back against the airport chair located at their gate.

“Beth?” Derek asked, pushing a piece of her hair behind her ear, “what’s going on?”

Bethany just shrugged. She must have felt Derek’s worried look on her because she then followed by saying, “I’m fine, really. Just…thinking.”

Derek said, “About what?”

For the first time since the show ended tonight, Bethany made eye contact with Derek. “Us,” Bethany finally said, her voice small.

“Well what in particular?” Derek placed on a hand on hers. “Nothing can change if you don’t tell me.”

Bethany smiled a little, “I…I don’t know. I guess I’m just confused on what’s going on between us, if there is going to be anything even going on.”

“Do you want something to be going on between us?” Derek asked.

“Well, yes.” Bethany admitted and Derek smiled. “I just don't know if it could actually work between. Like now, and after the show.” Bethany sighed, “we both live really busy lives, you know.”

“True.” Derek agreed, “and you’re right about not knowing the future. But, who does? Do you really think we should let something like our jobs, keep us from being together?”

Derek looked over at Bethany, who remained silent, so he kept talking. “I’m really glad to have met you, and I would love to keep this exploring this journey with you, and learning more about you, and us…” Derek smiled at her, “but only if you want to.”

Bethany looked at him, “You’re right, I’m just overthinking so much to think straight…I do want an us.” Bethany interlaced their fingers and placed her head on his chest. “But, Derek?”

“Mmhm?”

“Could we not tell anyone about us until we’re absolutely sure?” Bethany smiled, enjoying their own little world they were currently in.

“Anything you want,” Derek smiled, kissing the top of her head.
