Chapter Thirty-nine

Eiichi quietly walked towards Catarina from behind. Catarina was too focused composing on her laptop while sitting in her bed. He was making sure he didn't make any sound.

When he slowly sat behind her, he wrapped his arms around her.

"Wah!" Catarina exclaimed. She turned her head. "Eiichi, you surprised me!"

He chuckled."Sorry for surprising you.I knocked but you didn't reply. It's not your bed time yet and the lights were on. So I decided to come in." She let an 'o'.

"Did you return just now?" She asked.

"Mhm." He looked at her laptop. "Are you working on Yamato's song?"

"Yup. It's going smoothly. I completed the composition today and am now arranging it."

"Good..." One of his hands pulled her hair band down, thus opening her long hair which was loosely tied on her side. He nuzzled his face in her hair, taking in her sweet scent of lavender.

Her pulse quickened at his actions. His breath was also touching her neck, tickling her in the process. She closed her laptop and put it away. She won't be able to concentrate on work a tiny bit like this. She should start a conversation to calm herself.

"Eiichi."

"What?"

"I was just wondering for a while.... when did you realize you love me?" She asked curiously.

"Ah that...Do you remember that incident?"

"Which one?"

"You know....the time when you,uh, came into my room while I came out of shower..."

"Oh..." She felt embarrassed.

"I said that I didn't hear your knocks because I was busy thinking,right?"

"Yes..."

"I was actually thinking about you. That was when I realized I fell in love with you."

". . .I realized before that. It was the time when we were stuck in the storm."

At that time,I never thought we would end up like this.

"I'm sorry," Eiichi mumbled in her hair.

"Hmm? I didn't quite catch that."

"I'm sorry for today. It's Valentine's Day and I couldn't celebrate it with you." He hugged her tighter. With a small smile, she put her hands over his warm ones.

"There was nothing you could do. Work comes first. And I'm happy enough that you accepted my chocolates."

"Of course I'll accept them. You made it specially for me."

"Yeah, I made that specially for you. The others got friend chocolates while I gave you....the special one," she confessed the last part quietly.

"That is all the more why I'm sorry. I couldn't spend the day with you at all."

"Hey, it's alright. I know you had work. It's not like I'm angry or sad." She tried to reassure him.

She felt her shake his head. He softly kissed her head. "Still.."

"You know," Catarina interrupted him, the pink blush visible on her cheeks, "....it isn't not too late now."

"What do you mean?"

". . . .There's still more than half an hour till Valentine's day ends.And..."

"And?"

Catarina turned her head and quickly pecked his lips. She averted her eyes and shyly said, "Valentine's day isn't anything that special....I can tell you any day just how much I love you."
