"Leave me alone!" The girl screamed as she ran down the dark corridor, her long dark bun falling out as she ran. She slammed the door behind her as she reached her room. Her legs crumpled and she slid down against her bedroom door.
She held her head in her hands and she let her tears flood out. The tears burned her damaged skin but she was used to the pain.
With the tears still flowing she slid across the floor so she was facing the mirror and inspected the damage her mother had caused.
Her cheek was already beginning to bruise, turning a nasty blue colour. She had shallow scratches on both her nose and chin. She shivered as she relived the force her mothers rings had attacked her face with. T
he girl's tears had ceased falling now, leaving in its place swollen, red cheeks that out shined her astonishing eyes. Astonishing in the fact that they were violet in colour, a rare occurrence her mother was very much annoyed by.
How it annoyed her mother for her daughter to have violent eyes.
But then again all the girl did seemed to annoy her mother.
The way she dressed, in her dark, baggy clothing.
The way she used big words she had not taught her.
The way she spoke.
The way she walked.
Every thing about her.
The girl had never known love, not from her mother at least.
Her mother only saw her as a pest, a creature who drained both her wealth and her happiness. Her mother had not been able to cope since her husband died, a kind man, whom the girl always admired. He was good to her, them both. The widow turned to alcoholism and drugs, and beating her daughter senseless.
Indeed, the daughter dreamt of fighting back, of pushing her off. But she survived off her mother's welfare checks and she did not admire a life on the streets. She had no friends to turn to, no uncles nor aunts.
But she had books. While her real life may suck, fictional ones didn't.
She was still looking at herself in the mirror, when her mind returned from its beautiful tangent.
She looked into her great violet eyes as she promised herself, 'Delilah, you will be ok. Things will get better. You will escape this life...' She said it with such hope that she almost had herself convinced.
How she longed to be in another world, one where she had magical powers to stand up for herself and the only monsters were creatures with sharp teeth and furry skin.
More tears fell down her cheeks but she did not bother to wipe them away.
How she wished to get lost into the world of one of her books.
'Anywhere but here.'
She sat there daydreaming until it was very late. She looked up upon the moon and wished for a better life. There were no stars in her sky.
She climbed into her bed, just a lonely mattress and a single blanket and clutched her favourite book to her chest, 'Harry Potter'. It was her only comfort.
She looked up towards the moon one last time. She whispered softly, 'We're the same, you and I. We're both so greatly alone. You all the way up there and me way down her. So help a girl out. Take me to the moon.'
But she did not get a chance to finish her thought, for she began to feel a strange new sensation in her body.
Her arms began to tingle, like every nerve under her skin was on fire. Then it spread to her chest and next down her legs. Until finally she felt it crawling up her neck towards her brain.
Delilah didn't know what was happening, she tried to scream but she heard no voice leave her mouth. She couldn't move a single muscle. She panicked as the feeling edged it's way towards her face.
She had wished to escape but she did not want to die.
Suddenly, the feeling had won control of every surface of her body and her world went black. Strangely, she no longer felt afraid, she was overwhelmingly filled with a calmness and a feeling she imagined one could only feel if they walked on the clouds.
She gave in and allowed herself to walk among the clouds.
Giggles entered her awareness first. Then small chatter. Until the noise began to grow louder and louder. She could hear distinctive voices now. She knew those voices. She knew those voices so very well. But how could that be? It couldn't be. Could it really be...
