"What is mom doing with a Southside Serpent?" Polly asked angrily from the hotel window.
Since their mother had been gone for many hours, the older blonde decided to stay with her sister, just to keep her company as it was approaching midnight.
"What?" Betty rolled over in bed and she creased a brow.
"Mom, just got out of a truck and the guy had on one of those leather jackets..."
"Maybe he was just helping her out, don't jump to conclusions," the younger gal suggested.
"How could mom accept anything from them if she's the one who trashes them in the paper and tells us not to associate. I just hope he has nothing to do with where you guys are going."
"Polly, this could literally be just a misunderstanding. I know that look in your eyes, so please, for mom, do not tell dad anything. He will just freak out and it will make things far worse, I already know it."
"Okay, fine, but what about you? If mom is working with them and something happens to you?"
"Don't be so dramatic. Things will be fine... We can ask mom when she comes up right now. She's obviously not hiding anything," she gestured since they were at a pretty lavish hotel where people came and went as they pleased at all hours of day.
The girl crossed her arms and she started putting her coat on. "I'll see you later."
"Aren't you going to ask?"
"You ask. I don't trust this at all."
"Don't tell dad, Polly, I'm begging you for my sake. If he finds out I'm pregnant, he'll kill me."
The older blonde sighed and she thought about what was at stake if she told her father anything about their mother's encounter with the Southside. "I won't tell dad anything, I promise."
"Tell your father what?" Alice popped in, seemingly quiet that it scared both girls when she shut the room door.
"Just anything overall..." Polly paused. "I was just making sure we were on the same page as far as everything goes again. We tell dad nothing. Not til you say so."
"Right," she nodded and then smiled. "You girls are going to fall in love with the place I just saw. It's beautiful; the rooms are huge so it will be big enough to be your bedroom and a nursery. So you and the baby will be nice and cozy. Then, if you want, Polly, there's more than enough room for you to stay when you choose to do so," she explained happily.
"That's amazing, mom. How far away is it?" Betty beamed.
"About three hours, that's why I was gone so long."
"Did you roam around town too?" she then asked. "Check it out at all?"
"No, why?"
"Well, you left about four and it's almost midnight... I just thought you did some research or something, you should have been back sooner," Betty explained.
"Oh, yeah, the owner and I we..." she sort of paused. "We went to grab something to eat so that we could sign papers and all that. He drove me through town and then we turned around and came back. Hit traffic on the way."
"Oh," she nodded.
"What's this owner's name?" Polly asked.
"Polly..." Betty muttered because she knew she was about to start grilling their mom and she felt there was no reason to.
"You know, I didn't actually catch his name... I just know he is a friend of Mr. Andrews'."
"Kind of weird that you don't remember."
