Hey y'all! So this is a Kotlc fan fiction, which you probably already know if you read the description. I just want to let you all know that it's in Keefes POV.

Disclaimer: all the songs i use in this do not belong to me, anyway hope you enjoy!

Not reread or edited.

The gold specks in her milky brown eyes glistened when the sun from the open window hit them. Why was she so beautiful? All elves were naturally beautiful, but Sophie just had this extra way about her. Keefe just couldn't look away, and her hair... there wasn't anything he could say. The part he loved most about her was her heart, her brave, considerate, kind, oblivious heart.

"Yo HunkyHair! Snap out of it will you? Unless you want everyone teasing you about staring dreamily at Blondie over there." Ro said as she melted out of the shadows. Keefe shook his head and forced himself to look away from her beautiful face, he couldn't afford anyone telling her he loved her. Just because she felt the same way, didn't mean she knew that she did. She wanted to be with Fitz, and he would just have to respect that. Sophie was pacing the large living room at Havenfield, they had to come up with a plan for the big showdown with the neverseen, and fast.

"They planned everything so perfectly! How can we go up against that when we haven't even the slightest idea of what to do when we get there!" Sophie ranted as she paced the room even faster, long gone eyelashes raining the floor.  Keefe hated when she was like this, he just wanted her to be happy. Not stressed or anxious and most certainly not frightened that this might be her last day in the world. He couldn't stand it anymore, he stood up from the comfy white sofa that he was sitting on, and walked up to her. He placed a gentle hand on her shoulder, stopping her in her tracks. She turned her sad, sleepless eyes toward him.

"Listen to me, we are going to work this out."—He turned to the rest of the gang— "Together." Everyone's face turned just as determined as his, even a little surprised as well. He didn't feel like joking around, this was serious, they all could get hurt, or even die. And if anyone died during this battle, it would be him to blame. He could never forgive himself if something happened to Sophie, he'd end up like Brant, that is when he was alive.

Dex who was fidgeting with a silver and bronze contraption looked up, lightbulbs lighting up in his periwinkle eyes. "Guys, I have an idea!" He shouted excitedly, standing up and waving his contraption. "Sophie, you know how I fixed that IPod thing or whatever it's called, for you?" He stated more than asked, but Sophie nodded anyway. "Well, you know how music isn't really the Elves thing? Well I've been doing some um... research on human technology. They use these things called speakers that blast sound really loud and far, so if I built some speakers to use during the attack..." Biana's eyes lit up,

"it could be a major distraction!" She shouted, excitement clouding her eyes. Dex beamed,

"Exactly! They would never see it coming, plus they would be all confused as to what it even is, since we don't have human kind of music here." Dex said, already pulling more random parts out of his backpack and ensembling them together in some intricate pattern.

"Dex your a genius!" Sophie yelled, tackling him with a hug. When they separated Sophie's brows scrunched up, making her adorable thinking face. "Now we just have to figure out how we'll use the extra time..." she said, beginning her pacing once again.

"Also, Sophie? I don't know any human music so I'll need your help with that part." Dex said, not looking up from his invention.

"Sure, I have tons on my IPod." Sophie replied, a smile lighting up her gorgeous eyes. She pulled a small silver rectangle out of her pocket, and pressed one side of it, making the rectangle light up, she pressed it a few more times. "Here, this is my playlist. It's basically just a collection of songs." She said simply, handing Dex the gadget. Dex pressed the screen and a tune came sounding out. Keefe thought about making a joke about Tam and Linh's family, But he was too curious as to what the song would sound like, he had never heard human music before.

"Woah, what song is this?" He asked just before the lyrics began.

I keep fighting voices in my mind that say I'm not enough...

Every single lie that tells me I will never measure up...

Am I more than just the sum of every high and every low, remind me who I am because I need to know...

"Uh, I think that's You Say, by Lauren Daigle." She responded, her brow scrunching up once again.

"It's nice." He responded, scrolling on the screen. Keefe's jaw clenched at the next lyrics.

You say I am loved but I can't feel a thing...

You say I am strong but I think I am weak...

And you say I am held when I am falling short...

And when I don't belong oh, you say I am yours...

"I've got to skidadle, Daddy Dearest is making me do more empath sessions with him." He said quickly before turning around and running out the door. He didn't know if anyone bought his excuse but he had to get away, he couldn't listen to that song any longer. Not when everything the song said was true except the last lyric. Just as he was holding his pathfinder up to the sun, Sophie came running out the door.

"Keefe wait!" She yelled, clearly already out of breathe. He turned his head to look her way, not even bothering in hiding his sad expression. "Wait..." she said again as she approached. "Don't go, we need your smarter-than-you-let-on brain." She reached for his hand, "it's not true, it's just a song." He shook his head and let go of her soft gloved hands.

"No, it's not... it's more than that." He said sadly, turning to walk away through his beam of light. As the light coated his skin and turned him to nothing more than pixels traveling through space, he knew she would never know why that song bothered him so much, for he only partially knew.
