Prom was coming up at my high school and I was NOT excited. I was going alone, that is if I was even going at all. Nobody talked to me, nobody was friends with me, and not to mention I looked scary as hell. At least that's what the other kids in the halls say. I am not approachable to the slightest.Gramps said that was a good thing.......people will leave you alone. I loved him to de-a lot, but that's not the person I want to be. I want friends, I want people to hang out with and eat pizza with. Maybe even possibly a girlfriend. But like any other loner in any story, they're left alone.
I look around and see everybody who is walking into school with friends, nobody alone. It's nothing different, it's just making me feel even more lonely. My locker wasn't far from the entrance, but it was still a journey into school. As if it wasn't bad enough, the halls were overflowing with students, and I was forced to squeeze through them to get to my locker. As soon as I reached my locker, I bumped into a small girl...She dropped her books and papers went flying.
She frantically bent down and scrambled to pick them up. I bent down and helped her, catching glimpses of her face through her long golden hair. I handed her the papers I found and she clutched them to her chest. She looked up at me with her emerald green eyes. She looked familiar. Maybe from my chemistry class.
"Thanks." She smiled and went off down the hall. I stood there for a minute, watching her go. She was pretty but not my type. I felt a bump to my chest and heard annoying but unfortunately familiar laughter. "What's this? Ol' loner boy got a crush on the first person to notice him?" Football players.
"No, I just-" I looked down at my feet. "You just- you just what?" They mocked. They went their way, laughing and imitating me. I brushed them off and went too English. The bell rang and I couldn't remember a word Miss Caliart said. I went on my way to chemistry. Maybe I'll see that girl again.
As attendance was called, the door burst open. It was the girl who I bumped into earlier! "Goldie?" Mr.Ronson questioned. "Uh, yeah hi-sorry I'm late-I was in the nurse's office!" She gasped. She panted, putting her hands on her knees, trying to catch her breath. "And why were you there instead of here?" Mr. Ronson continued.
"Can't-" she pulled out an inhaler. "-you guess?" She took a puff and calmed down a bit. She surveyed the room, looking for a seat. I look beside me and find empty seat. I glanced back at her and found that she saw what I had done.
Her face lit up. That's the first time that's happened. She sat her bag down next to me. She held out her hand, waiting for another to shake. I grabbed at it and we shook.
"I'm Goldie, Goldie Bastion." She said. "Jack." I said. "There a last name to that?" She asked. She then grabbed her bag and pulled out her notebook. "Jones." I finished.
"Oh-Jones...I'm sorry about what happened to your family." Goldie said. "Small town, huh." I say. "Indeed-". She was then cut off by our teacher. "Bastian, Jones, less talking more writing." Mr. Ronson injected. We both turned to our notebooks, feeling happier than before.
I don't know how that was possible for Goldie, but it was just that way. After class we talked a bit more and I learned that she didn't have a ton of friends either, just her inner circle. She wanted to introduce me to them but I doubted they'd like me. "Pfft-" she laughed. "-If you'd open up a bit more, maybe people would flock to you like bees to a hive!" She insisted. I gave a small smile. She handed me a sticky note with her number on it, telling me to call her after school. I went off to my next class, thinkin' about everything but physics.
