"So what's the plan now?" Wendy asks the group.
"Head back to Fairy Tail. If our guild is about to be under attack, we have to let the other members know as soon as possible. Once they find her or she gets free, it's only a matter of time," Erza answers.
Behind me I hear Gray pull Juvia against his side and tell her, "Juvy? If this gets ugly, I need you to promise me something?"
Even Juvia can detect the serious tone in his voice, "why yes my Gray darling? Anything.."
"Juvia. I can't lose you. If things get hairy again, you can't pull any self sacrificing stunts to save me. You have to promise me!" He's urgent. I understand. He means this with his whole heart and Juvia doesn't always listen to him when it comes to stuff like this.
"But-"
"No, Juvia please," their voices become more distant now, when I peek over my shoulder, her face is in his hands. She mouths something back to him. 'I promise' maybe?
"What he said," Natsu says to me.
"Huh?" I look over at him.
"Don't sacrifice yourself for me if it comes to it," he says platonically.
"Okay. So long as you don't sacrifice yourself for me if it comes to it," I quip.
"What? No."
"No Natsu. I'm not a damsel in distress and I'm not your pet you can order around. Besides, I can't stomach the thought of sitting back and watching my husband die for me. I don't want to live in a world where you're not in it," I whisper the last part before intertwining my fingers with his. Despite my whispering, I can tell Wendy heard me. She's blushing slightly and there's a cute smile on her lips.
We get back to the guild before too long and Erza makes haste to discuss the situation with Master Makarov. Everyone unpacks their bags and settles back into their respective homes.
From what I've gathered, the Ravana Guild is on the other side of Ishgar. So even if they had plans to raid us immediately, it would take a good while for them to get here. Who knows how long Touka will sit up in that room before somebody helps her.
I imagine their first order of business when they find her is figuring out how to melt the ice encapsulating her extremities before they die and she's crippled. Then after that, she'll most likely need to recover. From several burns, if not amputations too.
We have a good two weeks before they stand a chance at getting near us.
"Lucy!" Natsu screams from the fridge.
"Yeah?" I'm writing a letter to my mom.
"Why isn't there any food in here?"
"Maybe because you ate it all!"
"So? Why haven't you bought any?"
"Why haven't you? This is your place too ya know!" I screamed back in amusement. Sometimes it's like living with a child. Though from what I hear, this is just the synopsis of married life.
"Lusheee!" Happy whines.
"Yes?" My voice is weary.
"Can we go to the market?"
"Course we can buddy!" Natsu scoops up the blue cat. I'm hungry too, so we all walk together to the market and begin our shopping.
"Dumplings sound good?" Natsu's eyes glaze over at the thought.
"I'll take that as a yes," I say cheerfully dropping more groceries into the basket.
I drop more soap, shampoo, amongst other hygiene necessities into the basket when Natsu catches my attention.
"Hey Luce, what are these for?" He's holding up some feminine sanitary products.
"You seriously don't know?" I'm biting back laughter.
He shrugs and puts them back on the shelf, "no, so would you tell me?"
"Well, I suppose I should. So you aren't freaked out when it happens and go on another killing spree because you think I'm dying. For every girl, there is a week out of every month where we...bleed."
"Bleed? Where? Why?"
"Did Igneel teach you nothing? Jeez. We bleed for a week straight out of," I stop my sentence short and point towards my skirt surreptitiously.
"Why?"
"Our bodies way of letting us know we aren't with child," I say simply.
"Does it hurt? Bleeding for that long?"
"Sometimes. But we get used to it. We get cramps. Head aches. Back pain. But it only lasts a week. And these," I pick up the box he just had, "makes sure that we don't make a mess in our clothes."
"Every month you say?" He asks.
"Yes. That's what I said. One week out of every month," I'm exasperated.
"Well, that can't be true because if it were, you'd have been afflicted with this. And we've been together for well over a month now. I feel like I would have noticed some blood..."
He's right. I haven't cycled since we got together. I can't even remember when my last one was. The box falls out of my hand and onto the floor.
"Lucy?" He asks rushing to my side.
"I..."
"Lucy what's wrong?"
"I'm late," I whisper.
Next to the products are, ironically, pregnancy tests. Placement designed probably for situations like these. I scoop a handful of them into my arms and dump them into the basket.
"Lucy?" He's anxious. I can't say anything. I don't know what to say. I'm just ready to get home and find out once and for all.
"Lucy I found the chicken broth! What's wrong?" Happy asks. Natsu shakes his head. We continue our shopping in silence and head home. Natsu is in charge of putting the groceries up and I'm in charge of peeing on some sticks.
It's nerve wracking waiting for an answer. Any answer. This could possibly be the longest three minutes of my life. But eventually. One plus sign pops up after another. And all of them are pluses. I'm pregnant.
I just hold the sticks in my hands shocked for I don't know how long.
"Lucy?" He asks nervously through the door. I don't say anything to him. I can't speak at all.
"I'm coming in... So don't Lucy kick me for it," he tentatively opens the door.
I don't say anything. I just hand him the tests. My heart falls on the floor. I'm panicking internally thinking about how he might respond.
He reads them carefully. Reads the directions carefully. Reads them some more.
"Well..." Is all he says letting out one long breath.
"Well?"
"Uh. Well. How do you feel?" He asks.
"How do you feel? Do you even want kids Natsu?" It's a fair question given the circumstances.
"I. Well. Luce. I never really thought about it but I wouldn't mind. I like Asca alright."
"That's not an answer Natsu! This is for real! There's a living breathing baby in here! And I want to know if you want it," I'm anxious and my voice is almost trembling.
"What does it matter what I want Lucy? This is your body, not mine," his hands gently grab my face, "I can't make this decision for you. But what I can do is support you no matter what you do."
He looks into my eyes intently before placing a sweet kiss on my lips. He always knows what the right thing to say is. Still, what I wouldn't give to know what he's thinking for once.
