"Mother, Father...the black men took my sister Sofia away. They will bring her back after ten days and warned me not to flee!" Laura told her parents.
Rosa erupted into a painful sobbing and covered her tear-stained face with her hands. "Husband, they are going to kill our child!" she said.
Laura looked at her father. "What is going on, Father? Who are these people? Why are they hurting you? And why are they talking about marrying me to their son? I don't understand!" she said, feeling a painful headache pounding on her head.
Simon looked at his daughter. "Child...go...hurry to the servants quarter and released the servants that were being imprisoned there by those black men, so that they can start cleaning the living room," he ordered.
Laura obeyed and rushed back downstairs to release the servants. After she finished releasing them, she ordered the servants to clean the living room. Then she went back upstairs to continue interrogating her parents about those black hooded cape men.
When she arrived upstairs, she found her parents in their bedroom. Her mother was busy tending to her father's wound on his forehead.
"Mother, let me do it," she offered.
"Nah, it's okay. I've finished already," Rosa replied.
Simon looked at her daughter. "Child, go to your room and packed your bags! You will leave this house tomorrow!" he ordered.
Laura's brows furrowed, she remembered what that mysterious woman told her. "No, father! We can't leave this house! They have taken my sister. They will kill her if they returned here and discovered that we flee," she said.
"Child, don't be so stubborn! Your life is more important than your sister," he reasoned out.
"Father, how can you say that!?" Laura's eyes widened in disbelief of her father's disregard for her sister's life. Although Sofia was only an adoptive child, she loved her sister dearly, like her flesh and blood.
She looked at her mother. "Mother, please convinced father!" she urged her.
Rosa released a deep sigh. "Child, you know that I love you both as my daughter's, but we are only thinking of your safety. Those people will come back and will take you away. We can't allow that!" she said. "As for your sister, we will find a way how to save her..."
Laura released a deep sigh. Her heart was breaking inside for her sister. "Mother, Father...tell me now who are these people? I can tell that they are not humans! They have supernatural powers! Why are they after me? Why they're hurting you, Father? Why? And why are they talking about a deal? What that deal has to do about me?" she bombarded her father with a lot of questions.
Rosa and Simon looked at each other.
"I think it's about time that our daughter will know the truth of what happened twenty years ago," Rosa said. "Husband, please tell her everything..."
Simon released a heavy sigh. "Sit down, daughter. Let me tell you what happened a long time ago when you're still a baby..."
Laura lowered herself on the chair, facing her father. "Please continue...Father..." she said.
Simon cleared his throat.
"Twenty years ago, we lived in a faraway village surrounded by rivers and mountains. Your mother and I were longing for a child. We've been married for many years, but we're never blessed with a child. We kept praying to God for a baby. One day, finally, our waiting was over. Your mother found out that she was pregnant. Our hearts were overflowing with gladness and happiness.
