sapnap wasn't usually one for coffee

sapnap wasn't usually one for coffee.

not even if the once evergreen leaves that have now gently transitioned into a beautiful array of auburn shades have fallen to the ground, as people begin to layer up with their scarves and their coats to keep them protected from the harsh bite of the cold, and the air smelt of baked pumpkin pie from all around.

not even if it was the early hours of the morning, sitting at his desk for hours on end while his back begged for a break from the hard chair and his eyelids were constantly falling, begging for the sweet relief of sleep while he completed an assignment.

no matter what, he just didn't like coffee.

so why was he at a coffee shop? how had he allowed dream to convince him to come along? he quietly groaned to himself as they found an empty seat in the shop, and dream seemed to be talking about something that went in one ear and out the other. maybe school? or youtube? he didn't really notice.

"sapnap? you seem out of it, what's up?" dream asked, snapping the man out of his daze.

"oh, no i'm good. i'm just feeling tired, y'know?"

dream nodded in acknowledgement, before giving him a sly grin, "well that's why i brought you here, maybe coffee will wake up dude!"

"nuh-uh," sapnap instantly denied, "coffee isn't my thing.. i thought you knew this."

"no, i do," the blond male replied, "but c'mon, coffee is the best. get a latte, they're not bitter and i seriously think you'll like it."

sapnap shook his head like a child would, knowing that he wouldn't enjoy the taste of scalding, bitter coffee - even if dream had claimed it was the opposite. besides, he vowed that he wouldn't try it anytime soon. he didn't enjoy the weird taste, instead he preferred the spicier things in life. probably 'cause he's a texan.

"dude," dream rolled his eyes, "look, i'll give you five dollars, just get it and TRY IT. if you don't like it, then i'll have it."

giving in, sapnap reluctantly stood up from the table and held out his hand, awaiting the money from dream. the blond put the dollar bill into sapnap's hand, urging him to go up to the counter. muttering a small, "i hate you," the brunet trudged his way to the front, looking up at the menu to see the name.

that was - until he locked eyes with you. holy shit, you were GORGEOUS. from the second he glanced at you, he could see the sparkle in your eye and the genuine kindness in your welcoming smile. his heart skipped a beat as he looked down at his hands, seemingly becoming a thousand times more interesting.

"hello, i can take your order whenever you're ready!" you greeted him, giving him a wave and a bright smile.

"ah, um," he stumbled on his words like a fool, "i'll just get a.. a latte.. warm."

what the fuck was that. you're supposed to be smooth! what are you doing?! he internally chastised himself because of his own idiocy. who stutters when they talk to a cute girl?!

you giggle a little, "for sure! anything else i can get for you?"

"uh.. n-no, that's fine, thanks." sapnap nervously grinned, rubbing the nape of his neck while internally cursing himself for the stutters.

you grabbed the cash he handed you, placing it in the register as you kept the warm smile on your face that made his heart race. how were you so gorgeous? he had to talk to you, at least get your number. sapnap cleared his throat, not really thinking about what he was going to say as you looked up at him.

"so.. do you come here often?"

"well, considering i work here, yes."

sapnap mentally slapped himself while you giggled delightfully again. jesus christ, did he somehow get even worse at flirting? what kind of question was that?! obviously you come here, you work here for goodness sake!

as you handed him the latte, his cheeks were flamed from embarrassment and the pure moronic behaviour he had just displayed. he felt ashamed of himself, and he had no doubt that dream would tease him about it. maybe he wouldn't be getting the girl today.

sighing as he walked back to the table, he looked down at the cup of coffee and the napkin that was protecting his hands from the scalding glass. however, upon inspection, he saw a bit of writing on the side of the white napkin: xxx-xxx-xxxx my name is [first name], call me :).

that familiar fuzzy feeling returned as his heart skipped many beats, his mouth slightly hanging open in shock. sapnap sat down at the table, clearly in a bit of a daze, and dream smirked a bit - he had watched the entire thing happen.

"welcome back mr. 'you come here often?'" dream mischievously teased.

"dude, shut up!"

but maybe sapnap's perspective on coffee had changed a bit.. maybe he'd be coming back to this coffee shop sometime soon.
