<<Sure thing, I'll marry you! Now will you stop asking?>>.

<<What? Are you being serious, sweetheart? Did you really accept my proposal?>>.

<<I...>> was he aware of a thing called irony, Idate thought.

<<I'm so glad this day has finally come, my love>> Gris seemed so genuinely happy, as a sweet smile went across his face. He gently leaned towards Idate, giving him a peck on the lips.

The orca jumped and tried to back down, only to be stopped by Gris' arm - which was now placed on his shoulder.

<<My love, it seems you're rather excited! As I am, too>>.

How can one be so oblivious?? Idate was both annoyed and confused.

Yeah, of course he knew love was blind - just like his love for Rocma. About that...

<<Honey, I want to marry you as soon as possible. Will you help me organize the ceremony? I'd like to take you to an interesting outlet, where we can both buy a new tuxedo for the special day. Will you come with me?>>.

<<I don't think you got my point...>>.

<<Oh, we won't see each other's suits if you don't want to! Or... would you rather not wear a suit? You'd rather wear a dress?>>.

Idate was now foaming at the mouth (and blushing, too, admittedly): <<That's not what I meant! Now, will you please leave me alone??>> he was about to walk away, but Gris' hand once again grabbed him by his sleeve. Sadly, Idate knew that he couldn't run away: the sperm whale was, somehow, way stronger than he was.

That was literally the only reason he was still alive after harassing him so much so often.

Of course, that made Idate fume with rage and frustration.

<<Sweetheart, why do you already want to go away? This must be a memorable day, one which we'll tell our kids one day. I want to spend it with you. Are you worried about something, honey?>> as he was talking, Gris gently made Idate turn to face him again.

<<I'm not...>>.

<<Look at you. You're frowning. What's wrong, sweetie? Tell me all about it, so I'll do what I can to comfort you. You know you can trust me, right?>> he was caressing Idate's cheek as he was murmuring to him such words.

Such saccharine words. At least from the orca's point of view.

He was so nervous he started to feel some kind of ache at his stomach, as his cheeks turned bright red. From anger, of course.

<<Honey. Are you worried about your parents? You know you don't have to tell them if you don't wish to, right? They don't have to be a part of your life anymore...>>.

The orca suddenly slapped Gris' hand, so that he'd stop touching his face.

He really did not like the weird way it made him feel.

<<Listen. I don't know what's wrong with you, but I'm surely not gonna marry you. Leave me alone for once>> the orca turned his back on him, and was about to finally go away. Until...

<<I'm so sorry, Idate>> he felt a soft whisper in his hear, a pair of arms wrapping his body in a tight, warm embrace.

Idate couldn't remember the last time someone hugged him that way.

The warmth coming from the whale's body made him quiver a bit, though he couldn't tell out of what.

Still, he also felt quite stiff: a bit uncomfortable with such tenderness.

<<I'm so sorry you felt misunderstood and unheard, my love. I just want for the both of us to be happy. Together. I know this whole ordeal may be a lot for you to handle, since you're not used to being loved. So don't worry: I'll be here for you until the end>>.

Somehow, his words managed to make the orca nauseated and profoundly moved at the same time.

Even he didn't know which feeling would prevail at last.

He really hoped for the former, although...

<<Shall we cuddle on the seashore?>>.

His heart ached in his chest. The child that still lived on in his heart wished for those cuddles with all his being. That child wanted to be held, heard and love, without having to fear any upcoming danger. That child wished for security and warmth. He wished for a chatel, a safe harbour.

He wanted to believe in Gris' words.

This wasn't the case for Idate the orca though. The confident Idate was still dominating in his mind - cocky, aloof and carefree, that's what he was set up to be at all times. That orca didn't believe in tenderness nor in warmth. That orca certainly didn't need a safe harbour, much less to be cared for.

That orca was, of course, himself: so who was that other child and where did he come from? Where did such sappy feelings come from in the first place?

<<Idate? Why are you being so silent now?>> Gris' gentle voice got him back to reality.

<<I... I guess we can cuddle... just for this time though...>> stuttered the orca.

<<Really? I'm so glad, sweetheart>> Gris placed a kiss on the orca's head, before letting him go and taking him by his hand: <<Seashore it is, then>>.

<<...Y-yeah>> Idate was madly blushing. Hopefully nobody would see them...

They spent all the evening near the coast, watching the sunset, chatting a bit.

Eventually they both sat down on the sand. Gris leaned on a huge rock nearby, looking relaxed. He then smiled at Idate, and promptly enveloped his body with his arms, placing his head on his shoulder.

The orca was still quivering at the tenderness, nervous, quite bashful even. He then heard the whale's heart beating in his chest, and decided to listen to it in order to relax a bit.

Somehow, he now wanted to let go of all of his armours - well... let's say to at least put the guard down and allow himself to be cared for for a bit.

That was a new experience, right? He accepted to this because he was bored and had nothing else to do. He was simply curious at what being cuddled felt like. He then would have walked away and go back to avoid him as usual. Yes, exactly, he was just being curious.

Right?

Gris' hand started caressing the orca's hair, gently. Idate closed his eyes.

Feeling calm and safe as he hadn't felt in a long time.
