September, 1978

Her head had slightly eased and she settled down into a free seat for her first potions lesson of the term.

Professor slughorn greeted the pretty girl with a wide smile and ushered her over to a group of slytherins. He so happened to be her head of house so she presented her weakening smile that made almost every boy giddy without fail.

Good impressions were key if she wanted to survive her first and last year at hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardry.

The wizards all greeted her with smirks and somewhat disturbing smiles but she expected nothing less.

"antonin dolohov" He presented his arm which she shook firmly. "and you are? "

"divaun, marielle divaun"

"so your the girl who has to share a room with black, bless your heart" A dark haired and extremely pale girl said with a snarky cruel tone, spitting at the end of her sentences.

She bit her cheek, now was not the time to make enemies. "what do you mean?"

"oh nothing, just expect you to be another girl fauning over him"

"don't worry about ivy, she's just jealous" the girl with blonde hair and beautiful ocean blue eyes had now started to whisper the end of her sentence into her ear. "I don't know why though, she has an understanding with David parkinson"

"an understanding ?"  Marielle had never heard of such a thing.

"usually occurs in pureblood lines, when two family's agree to get married as soon as the couple become of age."

The blonde gave a slight smile " I'm Melissa and this is Trevor nott"

The new student looked down to see their hands were linked, she nodded.

The room fell silent as they settled down accommodating a table at the back. A boy with ruffled hair and shirt stepped into the classroom and sat himself down next to herself.

Marielle gulped down her nervousness, it seemed she couldn't escape him.

"get the leafs then... divaun!"

She jumped at the sudden sharp noise, regulus was ordering her around like a defenseless puppet. It seemed she had been daydreaming for a while now and his patience was obviously growing thin.

"NO, why should I you brat-"

She lifted her head to see her teacher staring at her dissapointed, tutting before patting black on the back as if to congratulate the boy for just breathing.

"my boy, you've got your work cut out, Why don't you fetch the ingredients"

The scraping of the wooden chair made her cringe, as he strode over to the table that was filled with many glass viles, plants and spices.

First impressions up my arse, he ruined it again.

"tell me why you strode in late looking a mess when you were perfectly groomed at the beginning of the day"

"wouldn't you like to know"

She made a visible gag, sticking out her tongue and poking her finger to tease him.

"I'd advice you don't mess with me darling" A cold hand wrapped around her thigh just below the hem of her school skirt and she gasped at the boys sudden gesture.

After he scanned her face and saw the rosiness rise to her cheeks he let go of his firm grip and poured the ingredients into a large black cauldron.

Marielle patted her cold hands over her cheeks in disbelief by what had just happened, trying to cool her skin.

Growling at the fact this cold hearted boy could make her so flustered. Two could play at that game.

Two twin siblings approached her, being the last of the slytherins in this class and year group. The male and female glanced at eachother before travelling around her body to see whether she was worthy of being friends with such.

"we are the Carrow siblings"

"pleasure"

They walked away in unison, their long black cloaks trailing behind them.

"so divaun, you've made me get all the powders, valerian root and syrup of hellebore, care to tell me what you offer for being my partner"

"your a little dilusional, I didn't choose to be your anything. You simply sat down next to me"

"you sat in my seat" he was now towering over her sitting form, smirking down at her.

Before Marielle could snap back a reply from his petty childish remark their cauldron, that had been placed between the two, emmited light silver vapour with an extreme strong scent. The fog had created a coughing fit, it felt as if there lungs were being corrupted by the terrible smoke.

Slughorn rushed to their aid in a hussle, his waist swaying from each side as he bimbled over to the pair.

"oh dears, one slurp of your 'draught of peace' and you could be in an irreversible sleep, basically a coma"

"I'm sorry on behalf of her, she merely distracted me"

Marielle scoffed rather loudly as the classes eyes all laid on her. She tapped her toes against the floor, jittery and not in the mood for this boys excuses and to ruin his high prestigue title that he clung to so dearly.

Once the potions teacher had wandered back to his desk she muttered under her breath.

"teachers pet are you?"

"no they just seem to adore me" he quickly replied as if he could read what her mind was registering.

Marielle decided to leave for dinner not fancying brewing any food after their potion fail.

She glanced at the four rows that all the students seemed to abide to, not a single colour was misplaced.

As she sat on the cold wooden benches she grabbed a chicken wing and some potatoes. Her stomach was growling at her for taking so long to eat.

Finally the peace and quiet that she needed, sighing and completely oblivious to the boy that sat opposite to her with a sturdy brown leather book, a quill and some ink. He was writing and it was intriguing to see such a bold character be of no nuisance, almost innocent as he jotted down his thoughts on the tea stained old pages.

She peered over, sipping the pumpkin juice that was in her goblet trying to catch a sentence of his well thought writing but he was hiding it extremely well as if it was an important monarch or ancient artifact.
