Little Reunion
╚══════════════════╝She had expected for a certain phantom to visit her at night, probably leaving one of his cute signature cards before the meeting. That girl however, wasn't expecting the series of taps on her window.
No, not just random taps, it was their language...
She tried not to get all rushed and draw suspicions as she opens her window and tapped a response to let the person in.
{So, this is actually meant something} he tapped against the wall while she still pretends to stare at the moon for a bit, later decided to close the window again after getting enough fresh air.
{Figured, that you'd visit} she smiled a bit, accepting the white rose that he gave her.
"Though, it's quite scandalous of you to visit a maiden's room in the middle of the night, don't you think?" She said, teasing him a bit, not wanting to dive into the problem right away.
He chuckled, showing her the white box he brought along before then speak up himself. "What can I do? Curiosity gets the better of me. You, of all people, know that"
"Don't worry, I've come prepared" she said as she served him a plalte of cookies and a glass warm milk, making him blink in surprise before his lips split into a grin.
"Thanks, Shin-chan!" He chirps as he dug in, trusting her fully over the snacks.
"-What a shame that you didn't call me by my full former name. I would love to have a partner to tone on my soccer skill" She chimes in with hidden malice in her tone, though it's enough to make the brunet choked a bit on his milk.
Instantly raising his arms in defense, he stutters "U-uh... I'm S-sorry?" She only rolled her eyes before then huffing slightly.
"Anyway, I'm pretty sure you have long lists to say? We only have a limited time." She reminded.
"Right" his demeanor changed a little. "Honestly, I can't seem to recall the whole thing but fragments." he admitted. "It's so distracting that I can't even act out as usual. Literally thought that I might've just lost it"
"Can't blame you. Almost 25 years gone in a snap? Even someone as twisted as you would question reality"
"Sanity is debatable, I know a witch, literally chasing after an immortality stone, and befriending a corpse magnet. I suppose I shouldn't have been so harsh on my mentality" he slipped the in joke in attempt to lifted the mood a little yet he saw panic in her eyes.
Overly familiar on that stare, he instantly by her side, holding both of her hands. "Hey, Hey, it's alright. Everything is fine. We are safe. No one's hurt" he recites, pitching his voice into a soothing tone that has helped the detective to get a grasp of the world.
"No...... someone's hurt" she crooked out, jaws clenching as she squeezed his hands. At least Kaito knows that she's not drowning.
"Who's hurt, Shin-chan?" He asked softly.
"....strangers..."
"Strangers? Do you want to talk about it?" He guided, knowing the other's habit to bottle things up had it not because of years of practice with him.
She shakingly sighed as she put her head onto his chest. "I tried to stay out. I thought... Hakase NEEDS a peaceful life, he didn't remember much, but some of the memory sticks. And he deserved to be happy... but at the cost... t-the culprit shot himself... in front of all of those innocent people... all of those children...." She punched his chest lightly, eyes shut at the fresh memory.
"I could have prevented that... I could have, Kaito. But I didn't. I didn't do it" the guilt is overwhelming and the way it triggers the memories of those she'd lost is truly agonizing.
It was a call, his conscious didn't even register how this could be a harassment under normal circumstances, his muscle memory just took over as he hugged her tight. Keeping her warm in his embrace as his lips chanting sweet assurance into her ear while the now smaller frame, hugged him back in desperation.
They've been each other's anchor for so long that Kaito felt more than just lost within the last 2 months after waking up on list of people died on the takedown. He didn't even realized how much younger he was than he's supposed to as he frantically tried to make a contact with anyone from his partner's side, just be replied with... Nothing.
It was soul crushing that he felt nothing than emptiness.
They've won....
but at what cost?
He stopped pondering as he hold her closer. "It's alright. Everything is fine. We are safe. No one's hurt..." he mutters again, although this time he was so sure that it's more for himself than the girl.
.oOo.
It was reckless of her to fall asleep without any precautions. Then again, she couldn't help feeling grateful for how refreshing she felt as she woke up.
It was a school day, so albeit reluctantly-- knowing from a glance just how sleep deprived he is, she woke up the boy who'd been spooning her up all night long. "Kaito. It's morning." She called out.
"5 more minutessss" he whined childishly and just curled back to bed, snuggling the blanket, to which she rolls her eyes in bemusement.
She snatched the blanket away, "Nu-uh~ wake up, sleepy head. Or else you'll be late"
"Who needs school anyway? They sucks" the half awake magician mumbled, leaving her no choice but pinched his cheeks.
"Ow, Ow, owwie! Hem ap! hem ap!" He yelped while the ravenette chuckled heartedly.
"And this is what I get for keeping you warm???" He rubbed his cheeks, attempting to glare at her but ends up pouting.
"Heh, by any means, I can file you for a trespassing and possibly sexual harassment, KID-san~" she shots back with a snicker while the boy just went agape like a fish out of the water.
"W-what the-- I was helping you!!!" And likewise she couldn't help a laughter upon that.
Well, At least he got points from making her smile again.
