Chapter 2

Eventually Rick came back and asked where Sophia was when Carol broke down that's when we realized she was still lost. I felt bad seeing Carol so distraught I don't know how I would react if it were my kid. Oh I forgot to mention, I did learn the names of the people here, they seemed okay but I never really told them what happened, it still hurt too bad.

"Hey... you've been sitting here for awhile, are you okay?" Glenn asked as he approached.

"Yeah... sorry I lost my sister right before I showed up here." I replied quietly.

"I'm sorry. Do you plan on staying with us?" He asked curiously. "Oh-Oh! I can leave. I'm sorry I just had to get away from the horde." I answered quickly.

"No! You don't have to, it's okay. I promise." He said he said lightly putting his hand on my knee. "Okay." I whispered.

-
It's been about a day and earlier we all went out to look for Sophia, but Rick and the other decided to send us back to the highway. Carl ended up staying with them and I went back with Glenn and the others. Suddenly we heard a gunshot ring out and we all stood up, "Maybe they just took out a walker." I heard someone say. "No Rick and Shane would not do that, they would keep it quiet." Lori said with a slight panic in her voice. I walked over to her and placed a hand on her shoulder, "I'm sure everything's fine." I said trying to reassure her. She nodded in reply with a small smile.
-
We were all in the woods when a woman rode up and asked for Lori Grimes. Lori's head perked up and she walked over to the woman. "Carl has been shot, Rick needs you. The rest of you go up on the highway there is a farm, last name Greene." She shouted. Daryl tried to stop her in case it wasn't true but she went anyway.
-
Glenn, T-dog, and I showed up at the farm, "So do we just ring the doorbell?" Glenn asked. "I think we're past that." I said quietly looking at Glenn, T-dog nodded. "Did you close the gate up the road when you drove in." We heard the woman who came to get Lori say. She was sitting on the porch with her legs brought up to her chest. "Uh, Hi. Yes, we closed it. Did the latch and everything. Hello nice to see you again. We met before briefly" Glenn said. T-dog rolled his eyes at Glenn's rambling, "Look we came to help." T-dog said. "Is there anything we can do...I have some medical training." I said. T grunted in pain and the woman glanced down at his poorly bandaged arm. "It's not a bite. I cut myself pretty bad though." He said.

"We'll have it looked at. I'll let them know you're here." She said before walking into the house.

"Wait. We have some antibiotics and painkillers. I already gave him some but if Carl needs any." Glenn said, pulling out the pills and showing the woman.
"Come on inside I'll make you guys something to eat." She said holding the door open for us.
-
After Maggie, the woman who we just met helped us I asked if I could see Carl and she showed me to his room.

I knocked on the door frame lightly before walking in. I saw Carl's little body laying on the bed passed out. "Oh my god..." I whispered. They both looked at me and then Glenn, T and Maggie appeared standing next to me. "Hey." Glenn said quietly as he took his hat off. "We're here, and Athena has some medical training if you need help." He finished. I nodded my head in response, "Do you need any help?" I asked. "Thank you." Was all Lori said. An older man looked at me and nodded, "My name is Hershel, will you help me make sure his pressure stays at a good level?" He introduced himself and asked me. "Athena. And of course." I replied shaking his hand. I walked over and sat in a chair before checking his blood pressure, I kept the little circle containing the number in my hands just staring at it. Herschel pulled the blanket back and revealed Carl's bruised and destined belly. "If they're not back soon we have a decision to make." Herschel said. "And that is?" Rick asked.

"Whether to operate on your boy without a respirator." Herschel answered. My eyes widened because that would mean Carl would not be allowed to move. At all.

"You said that wouldn't work." Lori said. "I know. It's extremely unlikely but we can't wait much longer." Herschel said. Lori got up and walked out of the room Ricks eyes followed her and he got up to go get her. Herschel covered Carl's stomach before looking at me. "Are you okay?" Herschel asked me quietly. "Yeah, I just hope he's okay." I said. "What were you learning in school?" He asked me, "I was learning to become a nurse. I didn't know which unit though." I answered. He nodded in reply.

"Do you mind sitting here for a while? I'll bring you something, but I need to check on the others." He asked. I nodded with a small smile and he walked out.

It had been a few minutes before footsteps approached, I looked up to see Glenn and he gave me a small smile before walking over and sitting down next to me. "You good?" He whispered while looking at me. I looked up meeting his brown eyes, "Yeah...why does everyone keep asking me?" I asked quietly. "You have this look...like-I don't know, but you look very down." He said quietly. "You can talk to me...if you want." He said. Although I had only known him for a couple of days I liked him, he was nice and a good friend.

"I just..." I cut myself off clearing my throat and blinking back my tears. "I just miss my sister. I lost my parents only a few days before I lost her." I said, unfortunately my voice broke in the middle of the sentence. I stared down into my lap looking at my hands that were dirty and bloody. He placed his hand over mine and I looked up to him and gave him a thankful smile.

"I get it... I don't have any family besides this group. You'll get through it, you seem like a strong person." He said, returning the smile. "Thank you, Glenn." I said, he nodded before removing his hand and leaving the room.

There I sat in the room with the broken little boy laying on the bed, while I was left to sit in my thoughts.

I cried silently for the person who wasn't there who should've been. It was my fault maybe if I had acted sooner she would still be here.

My vision clouded with tears, they started flowing down my cheeks and I quickly wiped them away trying to compose myself and my heart that had finally broken from the loss of my sister.
