"so why are you so obsessed with harry potter anyways?" maya asked me as we continued our walk to school.

"oh boy, where do i even start?", i sighed. i genuinely didn't know where to start. there are so many reasons. "the book is just so powerful. i know i sound crazy when i say this, but every time i read the book, i feel at home. i've never really felt like i belong in this reality. i always get the shit end of the stick and nothing goes my way. i've never gotten a choice here. not to mention, ron, who is apart of the golden trio, his last name is weasley, just like mine. the book really just makes me feel as if i actually belong. at least if i was in hogwarts, i could get a choice." i ranted.

"wow. so, like what is harry potter? i've never read it or anything, and it just seems like a lot." she laughed, trying to make it make sense.

"well i mean yeah it is a lot! there's 7 books!" i laughed along with her.

"i know there are houses and stuff...and you have to get sorted into the hat or whatever..." she trailed off. "what house are you?!" she asked excitedly, coming back into reality.

"without a doubt, a slytherin."

"aren't those the evil ones?"

"not necessarily, just the misunderstood ones." i smiled weakly.

"well i think that reality sounds amazing." she smiled big. "i wish you could live in that reality as well." her smile turning into a frown.

"it's honestly whatever." i pushed it off. "not like it's possible anyways."

and with that we were at school.

maya and i didn't have first period together so we went our separate ways. my first period was english, which was near the front of the school so i walked in, not even needing to go to my locker.

not even seconds after walking in, someone was already trying to talk to me.

"another bruise? where'd this one come from?" alyssa, the school mean girl asked me.

"how about you mind your business." i said simply, trying not to start any arguments, again, avoiding what happens when i get mad.

"or what? you'll do to me what your foster dad does to you?" she smiled, as if she just defeat me. i looked shocked at her, trying to figure out how she found out but also trying to think of a comeback. my blood started boiling, my hands shaking out of control. i put my hands into a fist shape and closed my eyes. i decided it was best to not let her see that what she said got to me.

"do you wanna find out?"

as if not expecting that response, she coiled up, sensing danger.

"yeah. that's what i thought." i winked, and walked to my seat.

i was already over this day. and i haven't even been in first period but 2 minutes. i pulled out my harry potter book, completely disregarding what the teacher was presenting, and drifted off into my hogwarts reality.

the next to period drifted past quite fast because i wasn't paying attention, rather reading harry potter. my teachers don't really bother me about it as much as they used to, because in all honestly, i could care less. i don't want to go to college, and even if i did want to, how was i supposed to afford it?

i walked into the doors of the lunchroom and sat at my regular table with maya, who wasn't here yet. that's odd. she's usually very punctual.

sometimes when i'm bored i look around and guess what people's houses would be in hogwarts based off of their appearance. which isn't accurate at all, obviously, but it's fun and passes time.

"hey, sorry i'm late!" maya exclaimed while sliding next to me, bringing me out of my thoughts of which house zach, the school clown would be sorted into.

"definitely gryffindor." i whispered to myself, "it's all good!" i smiled, speaking up.

"gryffindor? what's that?" she asked.

"oh uh, something to do with harry potter. anywaysss why were you late?"

"funny you ask! well i was talking to mr. robinson, the psych teacher and guess what!!!" she exclaimed, obviously very proud about something.

"what?"

"what if i told you there was a way to get to hogwarts?" she smiled wide.

i looked at her. "by reading the books? watching the movies?"

"no! like ACTUALLY go to hogwarts."

i looked at her, completely stunned. there was absolutely no way. it's literally a book.

"maya, stop." i looked at her straight face, not amused by her jokes.

"breeze, i'm as serious as a heart attack."

"what? how? what do you mean?" i started throwing questions at her left and right. there was absolutely, positively no way possible.

"well it's called instantaneous shifting."
