Recently, an editor reached out to me, asking if I'd be interested in reviewing a book for them, which brings me here.

Book title: Her Returned Mate
Author: North Rose (please do correct me if I'm wrong)
Where to find book: Anystories

Please note that I've only reviewed the samples that were sent to me.

Summary (may contain spoilers from what I've read in the samples):

In the beginning of the book we meet Rayne, and are given a description of the main protagonist (assuming that Rayne is the main protagonist, I've only read the samples so I could be mistaken there. However, from what I've read Rayne is the main protagonist in "Her Returned Mate".) We quickly learn there is a ball that all werewolves attend (who haven't met their mate (unmated wolves)). Where most would be looking forward to the event, Rayne seems to dread it, and actually mentions she planned to go rogue as soon as she could sneak away without being discovered. Rayne has no intention of finding her mate, which to me makes her seem rather independent. Here, I am going to back a few steps, Rayne was the daughter of her pack's beta (The Jade Moon pack), and orphaned at the age of eight. Since then her pack treated her like trash, abusing her, and treating her like an omega.

Next we are introduced to Bridgette, the alpha's daughter and from the looks of things a spoiled brat. However, to me it seems there is room for more concerning Bridgette, an allie later on? Or one of the main antagonists? Bridgette is first introduced trying to get Rayne's attention, mentioning they were running late. When Rayne mentions she can't wait for the ball to be over and done with, so she can get back to her regular life Bridgette makes a comment. "You mean the sooner you can get back here and clean up this mess, and the one in my room?" After the comment she smirks at Rayne, as though daring her to say otherwise. Rayne shrugs it off, knowing she had no intention of returning. Bridgette is Rayne's main antagonist, aside from Bridgette's father whom we'll soon get to (that is what I was able to gather from the samples, that both may be the main antagonists, though I still stick to what I said originally, Bridgette has room for improvement, so there's no telling which side she'll be on). Bridgette was one of her tormentors for (possibly more, however this was all that was revealed in this part) Bridgette's brother and anyone else who showed any kindness towards Rayne.

The final character we meet (in the samples I was given) is Bridgette's father, Alpha Wilson. The man seems to have zero control over her anger, being impatient while waiting, using Rayne as a punching bag, and who knows what else he does with that unchecked temper. The Alpha was recently injured, and refused to have the pack doctor look at it, annoyed he wasn't healing at the rate he used to. Bridgette herself knows to steer clear of her father when he's mad, which shows just how little he tries to retrain it. When the three of them enter the room the ball was being held, the Alpha made his way to the bar, Bridgette went to find somewhere she'd be the center of attention, and Rayne planned to hide out until she could sneak off.

---
Myself personally, I would add something to hook the reader just before the book starts, an unrevealed villain, or something darker that somehow links to Rayne, so that it keeps the reader more at the edge of their seat, so that they do not choose to leave the book before things get to the good part everyone's looking forward to. I like the samples I read, the prologue part was something I've noticed keeps me myself more engaged in the books I read. I like how independent Rayne seems, and how it seems that if she does get away, something will pull her back, but when she does return, she'll be stronger than ever.

To the editor: thank you for giving me this opportunity, and I hope this helped.

Though I feel the whole thing speaks for itself, just to clarify, I do not own any of the characters or the book, I was simply doing a review over it. If either the author or editor wishes for me to remove the review, please let me know and I will take it down as soon as I've seen the message.

I hope you all have a wonderful day, and thank you for reading.

You've reached the end of published parts.
