Why?

Why him?

I didn't mean to.

It wasn't my fault.

       He attacked me, right?

       That's right.

       See? Not my fault.

A loud bump interrupted my thoughts. I certainly wasn't used to being interrupted. A high level security prison didn't exactly have a lot of people to interrupt you. Although going to the manor would be a new start right? It would be nice, correct?

I'll be happy.

I won't be alone.

The bumpy road to this said manor seemed to go on forever, as if a never-ending trail of my destiny lead throughout the land and straight into my blackened heart.

What would it be like? I wonder. It could not possibly be worse than being locked away with no one to speak with, right?

The long and twisted path lead to a rather old manor in the distance. I'd lost track of how long I had been on my way to this mysterious place, although it seemed that my journey would be over shortly.

After a while of riding on the back of the uncomfortable carriage of sorts, I got off. I carried nearly nothing. You were not allowed to carry many belongings in prison, not that I had many to begin with. That was all taken away from me.

Moving on from my depressing thoughts, this was a new start. A hopefully less dreadful place for me to live out my days.

The note I had received did not classify much, having said that I did only briefly scan over it. Foolish on my part? Perhaps. So frankly I had little information on what exactly I was getting myself into, time will tell I guess.

I was practically dragged to the front of the manor. It's big doors were quite intimidating, the chains that hung from them were not exactly helping matters.

I opened the door, carrying nothing but the small bag I had been allowed. It was not very heavy and easy to manage, luckily enough.

The inside was rustic, it smelled of dust. The openness of the main entrance's empty halls sent chills down my spine, making me shiver. The bad aura that I was almost immediately greeted with made me proceed with caution. The creaky floors felt as if they could crumble from beneath me, sending me falling into a deep black pit.

I quickly ran up the grand staircase, taking precaution not to step on the broken steps. The place could use some maintence, although it wasn't so bad.

I looked around for my assigned room, spotting it with ease. The manor was surprisingly easy to navigate, considering how open its wall were. It was nice. Once I'd found it, I unlocked the door. The key was old and worn, like something you would see in a movie.

The door swung open with a creak, the smell of dust wafted towards me. The room had obviously not been used in a long time, probably many years.

I locked the door behind me, taking in its appearance. It was big and beautiful. The huge bed that stood against the left wall was beautifully decorated with many pillows made of red silk and velvet. The curtains were made of the same material along with gold ribboning. A definite upgrade from my prior arrangement.

I let myself fall onto the soft bed, looking up at the ceiling for a moment to collect my thoughts.

How lucky...
