"Derek, he can't go back there. You should have seen the way they treated him. It was as if he was garbage. I won't let him go back there." Riley had called Derek the next morning to tell him about the teacher. After they got home last night, they got a call that from Stiles saying his dad was in the hospital and of course they had to go.

"Okay, but then what are we going to do? He has to go to school." Derek said. He didn't want him going back either, but they didn't know what else they could do, other than cyber, but they didn't really want to do that cause then he wouldn't make any friends.

"I don't know, okay? I just can't let him go back there." Riley said.

"I know, Riley. What if we contact the school? Have him stay home for a few days and see if they do anything about the teacher." They believed only one teacher was corrupt, but they were so wrong.

"I can't take off work for that long unless you are going to take him. Wait, Do you even have a job?" Riley asked genuinely wanting to know. Derek didn't seem like the guy to have a job.

"I don't have one because my family left me a huge inheritance when they died, so I don't need one. Yeah, I will watch. It's why I offered it. I know you can't take off work that long." Derek said. For some odd reason, Riley's heart fluttered a little because he paid attention. She didn't even think he knew she had two jobs.

"I'm sorry. I shouldn't have asked that" Riley said after Derek said something about his family.

"It's fine. I don't really care that much anymore." That was a lie. That day will haunt him forever. Even if he wasn't there. He felt their pain that day. He hadn't known what it was until it was too late, but he still felt it. It didn't help that he thought it was all his fault, either.

"Okay, I know you are lying, but I'm not going to push it." They wrapped up their conversation and Riley hung up the phone. She stood in the kitchen. Elijah was in the living room playing with blocks. Ryker walked into the kitchen and sat down in front of Riley. He didn't say anything for a few minutes, but then he spoke up.

"My boyfriend broke up with me." Ryker's hair was flopped to the side lazily. He was upset. Riley could always tell when he was upset. "I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Why can't they love me as much as I love them? It's not fair. I put so much time and effort into the relationship for them to tell me two months later, "It's not you, it's me." I'm sick of it.

"Ryke," Riley said softly, putting her hand over his, "Don't try so hard to find any person. Wait for the person. The person that you know without a shadow of a doubt will love you and cherish you as much as you do them. You're killing yourself here. I hate seeing you like this. He obviously didn't want you and that's on him, but he also wasn't your person either."

"Thanks, Riles. That helped."

"It's what I'm here for. Plus, it helps to know your love life is going as great as mine," Riley says, jokingly. Ryker looks up at her.

"You don't think it's going to work out with Jake?"

"No, I mean he is great with Elijah, good looking, and a great guy in general, but there is no connection, no chemistry. I'm gonna try going out with him again tomorrow. Hopefully, if the date doesn't get interrupted, I might feel a connection. That might have been the problem. I don't know we'll see."

"Just promise me one thing, Riles. Don't lead him on. If you don't think it is going anywhere tell him. I know what it feels like to be lead on and it hurts. Jake is a good guy he doesn't deserve that. Hell, I don't even think I deserve that." Ryker stands up and waits for my answer. He is still upset about his boyfriend, but he is a little better now.
