Alma was born on October 12th, to Amarath and Posy Smithson. She lived an excellent life. Her dad was was in the Capitol government as a senator from District 13. Her mom was a secretary at the Capitol. She had a brother, Cramer and a sister, Poppy. The life in District 13 was wonderful. People got along. As usual, they hated the Capitol rule. Other than that, Alma was a quiet girl. All she wanted to be was just like her dad. She read books about Panem a lot and understood how the Capitol ruled and how we should respect. This happy life didn't last for long.

Her mom was in the woods because she loved the nature. She was at a tree and saw a strange nest on the branch. She wanted to take a closer look at what was inside of the nest. What she didn't know is that it was a trap, the nest that she saw was a tracker jacker nest. She got stung way too many times and got sick from the venom. She died shortly after that hike in the woods.

Her dad was upset of what happened to his beloved wife. Few years later, he married, Megera Yang, a lady who was the personal secretary of the current president of District 13. She was a very nice and kind woman who loved her step children so much.

Shortly after a year of their marriage, Amarath died from a deadly disease. Despite being a widowed step mother, Megera still loved Alma, Cramer, and Poppy with all of her heart.

When Alma turned 9, Megera married Clover Sanderson, a secretary of Amarath. He loved his step children just like Megera.  November 12th, Alma was a proud step sister of her two new siblings, Alya and River. She was so happy and spent most of her time with them. Alya and River loved Alma as well. Sadly, the happiness didn't last forever.

When Cramer, 15 years old, he was hunting in the woods and camping as well, he drank from a river. The water was polluted with germs from Cholera. He was sick 3 days later, and died. You think Poppy lasted alive as well, think again! Poppy, 12 was in the alleyway to meet up with her friends, Josephine and Pru. She was waiting and a criminal found her and shot her to prevent her from telling the Peacekeepers. She was taken to a nearby hospital right away. The doctors tried to save her from dying, but they failed. On November 14th, Poppy died.

So since these tragic events took place, Clover and Megera kept Alma calm. She got over their deaths and went back into playing with Alya and River. She still was upset, but not depressed. As she grew, she became more self confident. She still tried to persevere into her dream into going into government with her own district. One day, her first step, was a success. I will explain in the next chapter.
