You were alone once again. The room felt as empty as ever. Your heavy breaths echoed through the room and made it impossible for you to hear anything else.

As time went by you felt more and more miserable. You knew trying to run away would get you killed. But even if you stayed here you would meet the same fate. Finally, you decided to try to escape.

You gathered all the courage and strength you had left and tried to untie the rope. After countless attempts, you gave up and started pulling your left hand out of the knot that was tied around your wrists.

The pain was almost unbearable but you kept going. You had to escape. For your parents. And there was no one who could stand in your way.

After a few minutes filled with agonizing pain and struggle, you finally freed your hands and stood up. Your wrists were bleeding. The skin was almost torn off.

“Well, at least I’m free.” You thought.

After slowly walking to the door, you pressed your ear on it and listened. Nothing. You slowly turned the door knob until you heard a click. Thank God it wasn’t locked. You peeked out and looked down the hallway. There wasn’t anyone there. Or at least you couldn’t see anyone. There were other doors like the one of your room but you decided to walk past them and keep them closed.

After a few minutes of walking you finally saw a sign that read EXIT. You followed the directions and reached a big metal door. You were free. At last. You turned the handle and pushed the door. Nothing. You pushed again and again, twisting the handle vigorously as tears streamed down your face.

“No…” You whispered quietly. Once again you felt hopeless.

There was no escape. If you had any hope of survival back then, it was long gone now.

You would never see the sun again, never feel the waves of the ocean against your skin, never feel the sand under your feet.

You were so close to freedom. So close…. yet so far. You heard footsteps coming from behind you along with shouting. That was it. They were going to kill you. Just like they killed your parents.

“THERE (HE/SHE) IS! GET (HIM/HER)!” You heard a man shout. “Do you have any idea how much trouble you’ve caused us?” You heard him ask as you turned around to face him. It was him. It was always him.

“Just kill me already.” You said almost yelling.

“Where’s the fun in that? Remember the guy I was talking about earlier? Well, he’s back and he brought a new toy to play with. Let’s not keep him waiting. He gets angry and trust me, you don’t want to see him angry.” He said as he tied your hands again and dragged you to the room. As soon as he put you back on the chair you noticed the man he was taking about standing next to the table.

“(HE/SHE)’s all yours. Have fun.”

And with that you were left in the room with the person who was now walking towards you with a drill in his hand.

“Don’t worry, it won’t hurt. Or at least not me.” He laughed as he pressed the drill to your head which made you close your eyes in horror.

Just when he was about to drill a hole through your head, you heard a loud bang and you felt something wet on your face. You opened your eyes and saw the man fall to his knees and then on his back.

You looked at the door which was now open and you saw someone standing there. He quickly ran to you and cut the rope. You finally saw his uniform and tears of joy filled your eyes.

“Are you okay?” The police officer asked you.

You couldn’t say anything.

“Don’t worry everything’s going to be okay. You’re safe now.”
