The Batman/Superman Story 1

"One year ago, we faced an alien invasion.....that almost spelled the
end of the human race." The Mayor of Gotham city said as he gave his speech at the city hall.

"Of all the cities that were attacked, our fair Gotham was the first on the battle lines and the most severely damaged. Since then, we have restored many of our buildings though there is still hard work to be done. To that end, the good people of Metropolis, our sister city have raised funds to help us. And at any moment, a check for those funds will be flown here by the Man of Steel and The Ice Queen themselves, Superman and Avatar."

"Wait till they see them, Miss Lane. The roof's gonna come off the building." Jimmy said to Daily Planet reporter, Lois Lane.

"Fan boy." Richard Dick Grayson said from his position at their front with Bruce Wayne and his fiancée Theresa Montoya

"What are you, un-American? They're Superman and Avatar." Jimmy said back. The other adults smiling slightly at their small banter.

"Yeah? Well, we have our own heroes."

"The Bat and The Shadow? They're okay, if you like the circus. Superman and Avatar are the real deal."

"Yeah? If they're so great? Why are they so late?" Dick asked with a smirk on his face.

Then Lois Lane's phone rang.

"Clark? Where are you? And is Phoebe with you?"

"Yes, she's here. Uh, well, Lois, we've got a little problem." Clark Kent said standing next to Phoebe Cruz from their position outside.

"I left my press pass in my other pants and they won't let me in. Maybe if you came to vouch for me."

"I swear, Clark, it's a wonder you remember to wear pants at all. Didn't Phoebe bring hers?"

"Uh actually, mine fell from my purse, I think when I was getting off the cab. Sorry." Phoebe said into the phone.

Lois sighed.

"Honestly, you two. Show's already started. Sorry." She hanged up

"We better get in there quick, we're already as late as can be." Phoebe said giving Clark a look.

Clark smiled sheepishly at her remembering it was his fault they were late. He couldn't figure out where exactly the City Hall was.

He looked around and smirked when he saw a dark alley. He turned to Phoebe and pointed at it.

The lady smirked back and looked around cautiously, before running towards the alley, Clark behind her.

"The moment you've been waiting for has finally arrived. Here they are, straight from Metropolis, Superman and Avatar."

The Mayor said and the skylight opened as Superman and Avatar flew into the Hall, in their signature outfits. The crowd immediately began clapping and whooping.

"Whoa." Dick said amazed.

"Told you." Jimmy said smugly.
No one noticed a mysterious man among the crowd, wearing a face cap, glaring at the heroes.

"Mayor Hill, it is our great privilege to present this check to the good people of Gotham City." Superman said as he stood next to Avatar on the podium.

The people of Gotham clapped.

Then the mysterious man jumped down on to the podium, landing on the check, tearing it apart.

"What's going on?"

"The check's been cancelled, Superman. And so have you."

The man punched Superman, sending him flying back to the giant speakers, destroying them.
