"What? What happened? Is it Peter?" I demanded, striding over to her.
"Just come." Her face was annoyingly unreadable.
I followed her as quickly as possible. Scenarios ran through my head, most of them bad. The walk seemed to drag on forever.
Finally, Natasha veered into the surveillance room. It was filled with rows of computers and a few large monitors on the walls. I'd been in this room a lot lately.
Only one computer was on. I sat in the chair in front of it and watched the screen, which seemed to be a camera feed of a building going up in flames on loop.
Natasha crossed her arms and nodded at the screen. "Our routine security feed scan caught this storage unit catching fire."
I examined the video a bit closer. "Where is that?"
"Up in the north part of the city. That area's basically a ghost town."
I looked up at her, secretly hoping this was going where I thought it was going. "Why are you showing me this?"
"Five minutes later, a convenience store the next street over caught this image." She turned on the computer next to me and pivoted the monitor so I could see.
From this perspective, you could tell that the entire street was empty. the only movement was when a guy walked past the store. The lighting under the awning wasn't very good, and he had the hood of his dark sweater pulled up, but when his head turned to face the camera, you could clearly see it was Peter.
My heart skipped a beat. I couldn't tell much from the poor quality video, but physically he looked okay. I wanted to leap through the window and fly north to search for him, but I knew I had to be smart about how I handled this.
"When was this?" I managed to say calmly.
I shot up straight, all pretenses lost. "Ten minutes! Why the hell aren't we out there?"
Something nagged at my brain. The halls were empty when we headed down here.
"Natasha, where is everyone?" Without waiting for an answer, I ran out of the room and headed straight for the conference room.
Empty.
Natasha entered the room behind me. "Tony didn't want you doing anything reckless."
I balled my fists and stormed out, heading for my workshop. Natasha didn't follow me this time.
I punched the code on that would open the case holding my suit, but it was denied. I tried 4 more times before shouting in frustration.
"FRIDAY!" I yelled.
"Yes, Miss Stark?" the A.I. replied.
"Open the case," I demanded.
"I'm sorry, Miss Stark, but your father has forbidden you to leave the building."
Clenching my jaw, I stalked into the hallway and upstairs, making a beeline for the first window. I tried to open it, but I couldn't. Now in total desperation, I tried using my powers to blast the glass, but it didn't leave so much as a scratch on the surface.
"I'm sorry, but I can't let you leave, Miss Stark," FRIDAY said once more.
"Callisto!" I yelled desperately.
Instead of my own A.I., FRIDAY responded again. "Callisto has been temporarily disabled."
I let out a guttural shout and slumped to the floor, placing my head in my hands. I was essentially imprisoned until my dad got back.
Didn't he trust me? I've been training for this exact situation. It's not like I would've been alone. The entire team would've been there, too.
I waited for what felt like hours. I laid in bed, too stressed to focus on anything other than my thoughts until FRIDAY notified me that they were back.
I raced to the conference room, hoping to see Peter there as well. After flinging the doors open and scanning the room, I realized their mission had failed.
My eyes burned with the threat of tears for the millionth time in the past few weeks. "What happened? Where is he?"
Dad sighed. "We checked the entire area. There was no evidence that anyone had even been there. It was a trick, just as I suspected. Camella, wait."
I turned and fled back to my room, ignoring Dad's calls as the tears spilled over.
Peter had slipped right past the entire team. I refused to believe he had blown that building up voluntarily. What was William doing with him? What was his goal?
"Oh, Peter," I whispered. "What is he doing to you?"
