"What?!"
Taehyung felt his heart drop at that. He felt it sink, the same way he felt a heavy lump slide down his throat.
"Yeah. It was a homicide. They have assigned me to the case."
"Wha — what? Are you sure it was Jeon Jungkook?"
The younger watched quietly as his brother nodded his head grimly. At this point, Taehyung was trying everything he could to hold in his tears. Biting onto his lips, until his teeth eventually sunk its way through his skin.
"Why is it — why would anyone kill him?" Taehyung sobbed, "he was one of the greatest dancers the world has ever seen!"
"Wouldn't we all like to know, Taehyung," Seokjin sighed, "sometimes bad things just happen to good people."
"But—but if they wanted his money couldn't they have just robbed him?"
"Who knows," Seokjin answered back, turning around to face his younger brother, whose fat tears were dripping all over the table, "but what I do know now is that I have to go to work and solve this case."
Taehyung sniffled, wiping his nose with the back of his hand, his vision still blurry.
"D—Do you promise to do everything you can to s—solve this case?"
The detective gave his brother a reassuring but sad smile. He knew how much the younger looked up to Jungkook.
"I promise. This case will become my top priority."
At this Seokjin held up his balled-up fist, making a face that resembled a superhero in an action movie. Taehyung couldn't help but laugh at his brother's attempt to cheer him up.
"Hahaha, alright then," Taehyung giggled as his face began to show signs of a smile.
Patting Taehyung on the head, Seokjin made his way out of the kitchen, standing in the hallway between the front door and the dining room.
"Okay, you know the drill, Taehyung. I have to go to work now, and you need to go film for your new video," Seokjin reminded as he was adjusting his necktie.
The aforementioned groaned, pouting at his brother as he whined, "I am feeling too lazy today! I am so sad! I need time to grieve the death of my favourite idol!"
Seokjin shook his head, picking up his leather suitcase.
"I understand, but sometimes you just gotta do what you just gotta do, even if you aren't feeling good on the inside."
Taking a moment to realize and process what his brother meant, an idea came to Taehyung's wonderfully creative mind. A lightbulb moment, if you will. Scrambling out of his seat, abandoning his pancakes, Taehyung booked it to the front door, grabbing Seokjin's arm before he had the chance to shut the front door behind him.
"Hyung!" Taehyung panted, "wait!"
"What is it? I am going to be late for work!"
"I—I have an idea," Taehyung announced, watching his brother's face contort in confusion.
"What?"
"What if," Taehyung started, holding up his index finger for dramatic effect, "I go to film in Jungkook's house."
"Taehyu—"
"Wait, no, let me finish," Taehyung interrupted, already knowing his brother's answer would not be good, "but hear me out. What if I go do a paranormal video at his house? They are really popular right now and especially with the news of Jungkook's death, we'll get more exposure!"
