(Rylee's POV)
Her mother looked down at her father shaking her head. Rylee wondered what secret they must share. It wasn't everyday that you saw the capo and his wife worried. "Mom? Dad? Do you want to tell me anything?" Rylee started, "You are never worried, and better yet, dad is always in here before us." It was the truth. Ace was always in the kitchen with Sharon while she made breakfast. Not even the duties of being the capo kept him from her in the morning. Ace looked at his daughters and sighed. "Look girls, I am getting older is all. I'll have to give my throne up soon." While Ace was speaking facing the both of them, Lauren and Rylee both knew he was talking to Rylee alone. As it would be her than the throne would belong too. Lauren shook her head and mumble incoherently. "No.. no.. she isn't fit for the throne. She doesn't deserve it!" The sound of Lauren's desperate voice filled the room. "Oh? And why doesn't she?" Her father's calm manner was only surpassed by the rage Rylee knew he was holding in. "Sh-she neglects her duties!" Lauren's voice although desperate held a certain certainty. It was almost as if she really believed in what she was saying about Rylee. Rylee scoffed. She couldn't fathom the audacity of her sister. Openly suggesting that she was unfit to rule?! Lauren had always manipulated other's will to get what she wanted. Why would she change her tactics now to tell their parents that she was unfit? It made no sense unless she was planning something! Or was she really that desperate? "Look, I don't care if you feel I'm unfit to rule. I'm the rightful heir to the throne. Not you." Ryan finished her statement, emphasizing her last couple of words. She walked out of the quaint lily white kitchen and straight out of the house.
(Lauren's POV)
Her sister was detestable. Acting all high and mighty simply because she was older. The fact that she was born into this world seventeen minutes earlier meant nothing to her. She was the smart sister. The sister that was born to rule, and she would make sure her parents and everybody knew that. "Mom, Dad! Can't you see? She ran out of the house so suddenly! Did she even bother to take her gun?" She questioned them. Now, she knew her sister brought her gun from her bedroom before she even came into the kitchen island. But her parents didn't. She was unfit to rule. Never thinking about anybody but herself. Lauren was different, she always thought of what would and wouldn't benefit the people around her. She questioned every choice. Most importantly, she recognized what it meant to be a leader. She knew that her parents didn't understand, but she would make them, no matter the cost. With those thoughts, Lauren walked out of the kitchen, grabbed her Glock 19, her keys, and ran out the front door into her car. She opened the car door, greeted with the sickly sweet smell of strawberries, and turned the ignition, backing out of her driveway and heading to Kathy's house. On her way she thought of what she might have to do. It hurt her to think it may come to that, but of her parents didn't understand where she was coming from, her choice was inevitable. "Lauren!" Kathy's voice was sweet with a rich undertone. A perfect sound for the short thin figure. She was sassy, yet humble. She never disagreed with Lauren, but always gave insightful ways on how to help. Her wavy blonde hair bounced around her waist as she ran to Lauren. "Lauren! I have so much to tell!" Kathy was always bubbly, and always eager to talk, but right now Lauren had to vent. She had to make somebody understand. Somebody, like Kathy. "Look Kathy, I want to listen, I really do its just.. " She trailed off letting a hint of sadness creep into her voice. "Oh! okay, come inside, I'll listen, just let it off your chest!" Kathy sounded disappointed, maybe she had important news Lauren thought. Well, it didn't matter. This was a matter of life and death! If Rylee got on the throne, they would all surely be led into nothingness. As Lauren and Kathy walked inside the Victorian style home, Lauren suddenly looked around. She felt a presence, almost.. dangerous. She turned back around and walked into the house. No it was impossible, nothing could sneak up on her, let alone a dangerous being. She sighed, if she was already stressed and imagining things, her job would be that much harder.
(Kathy's POV)
She had originally wanted to share the news with Lauren, after all it did concern her as well, but as soon as she heard the sadness in Lauren's voice, she knew she had to wait. They were walking into the home, when suddenly Lauren stopped and turned around, hand itching to her waistband. Kathy knew what lied in her waistband, her favorite gun, her Glock 19, but she had no idea why she was reaching for it. Before she could ponder any longer, Lauren turned back around and walked into the entry way of the house. Kathy stared at her a moment longer before entering the house herself and closing the door behind her. Lauren started her venting after sitting down in an armchair in the living room. "-I just don't understand how they could be so blind! So ignorant! She's unfit to rule." Lauren had shared her concern with Kathy many times, and while Kathy agreed on many things her friend talked about, matters involving her sister she did not understand. She was brought out of her thoughts by Lauren calling her name. "Kathy! Kathy?!" Lauren was starting to get mad now. She had to dissipate her friend's growing anger. "Oh of course, I don' understand ow anybody could be fooled by her act. She acts as if she's all that just because she's the heir to the throne, when she doesn't have any idea on what it takes to wear the crown." Kathy responded to Laurens rant with one of her own. In truth, unlike their friends she didn't understand what was wrong with Rylee. She seemed closed off sure, but nobody goes talking to strangers like their best friends. Well, nobody but Lauren. Her thoughts about Rylee were her secrets to share, and hers alone. Besides, Lauren's detest for Rylee was probably a sibling rivalry. However, no matter how trivial, Lauren was her friend and friends don't disagree. She seemed closed off sure, but nobody goes talking to strangers like their best friends. Well, nobody but Lauren. Although she wondered if Lauren really considered them friends, Lauren had never done anything to place distrust in their relationship. Lauren seemed happy with what Kathy had just said and smiled while holding her head higher. Kathy figured this was as good a time as any to bring it up. "So.. I went out shopping yesterday for some new art supplies, and this guy and his friend saw me! We struck up a conversation and they seemed really nice! They asked if I would like to go to a party they were hosting, I said sure, but I think they want me to bring a friend." Kathy stopped to look at her friend's expression. Lauren was nodding her head along to her Kathy's words and seemed to get the picture. "Sure, I'll go." Lauren was a social butterfly and never turned down a party, Kathy expected her answer, but thought it would hold more enthusiasm. "Are you okay Lauren?" Kathy was genuinely worried now, her friend seemed to have more on her mind than just her sister. "Yeah, I just.. " Lauren looked off into open space and didn't say anything else, so Kathy decided to drop it. "Well, were going to a party tomorrow.. that means shopping!!" Kathy squealed, Lauren soon joining in ending up with them laughing together. It felt good to have a friend, especially Lauren, her laugh was almost infectious. They walked to the front door, keys already in Lauren's hand. They walked out of the house, making sure to lock the door behind them as they walked down the driveway to the car. This, Kathy thought, is going to be fun.
