(Rylee Anderson POV)

She woke up feeling dread, and a newfound feeling she couldn't quite place. "Another day, I woke up, " She says as she looks around her bedroom, "Shame." She drags herself out bed, and walks to the bathroom door connected to her bedroom.  She cleans her face and showers, yet feels no more refreshed than earlier. She stands in front of the mirror staring at her tanned skin, and dark wavy locks surrounding her shoulders and upper back.  "What do they see that's so different from what I see" She trails off, thinking when she hears loud shouts downstairs. "RYLEE ANDERSON. GET YOUR ASS DOWN HERE NOW." Rylee recognizes her mothers voice, even when filled with contempt and hatred. "Another day.. " Rylee walks out of her bathroom fully dressed in black waist high jeans and a black over-sized shirt, complemented by her white and dark blue Nikes. She walks downstairs, greeted with the smell of dark chocolate chip pancakes, Laurens favorite. "Mother?" She calls out. "In here!" The sweet voice of her sister, which is a melody that cannot be unheard calls out from the dining room. Rylee walks in to the lily white room, accented with black appliances, her sitting at the island counter, eating pancakes drenched with syrup. "Morning!" Calls her sister. Rylee's detest for her sister was well thought out, it wasn't a simple rivalry that kept them apart. Rylee walked to the other end of the island and sat down, head resting on her propped elbow, bracing herself for the impending argument. "Lauren tells me that you've been neglecting your duties." Her mother's voice although now quiet and calm, still held a rage that was not to be dismissed. "I have not-" Rylee's words are cut off by her sisters sweet words.. "Hmm.. is that why you never work with me, dear sister?" She puts emphasis on dear, even though they both know it's anything but. "I work at night, while you sleep. I work better in silence and my duties are easier to accomplish in the darkness." Rylee has fought this argument before, and no matter what evidence or logic she has, it never goes easy for her. "Look Rylee. Your father is the capo, and you have duties as his daughter and future heir." Her mother states. "I understand it's easier at night, in the cover of darkness to preform your duties. But people are expecting to see how you handle things, and the darkness is far to opaque to see through it." Her mother continues, the anger in her voice gone, now filled with a desperation Rylee has never seen. Lauren looks away from her pancakes hearing her mother's tone. "Mom?" Lauren calls out, "Mom, I understand she's the heir.. if your feeling worried, maybe I can-" She's cut off by her mother's scowl. This was the only ting Lauren ever was reprimanded for, he unwillingness to let her sister lead was the cause of the fights her and their parents shared. Rylee smirked knowing that her sister, though she may be the golden child, still upset her parents. Her thoughts were cut short by the arrival of her father entering the room. "Morning ladies!" Her father's voice, although deep had a cheerful ring to it that was hard to miss. Rylee smiled, she was always fond of her father, whereas her mother was more Laurens parent of choice. Not by lack of trying, no, their father just wasn't as easily fooled by Lauren's charms. "Dad! Morning! I-" Lauren's voice was cut off their mother's. "Ace! come sit down.." Their mother's voice was filled with worry as she rushed to her husbands side. She grabbed his hand and led him to a chair  as he sat down. "I am not dead yet Sharon." Ace scolded. Rylee stared her father and mother, trying to figure out what they shared.  A secret perhaps. But what, could be so important, that her mother would appear worried, after years of being confident. And what was so worry some, that her father, was shaking.
