Thank you for considering to read Red Roses!

Attention: Chloe Moretz, who will be playing as the protagonist, has a darker complexion in the story than in real life. Just thought you should know considering she is quite fair-skinned.

🌹 Prologue: A Farmer's Daughter

Some people are always complaining about roses having thorns... I am thankful that thorns have roses.

- Alphonse Karr

7:50 am, Liberty High School in Vaeris, Dres Van Altaria.

"Macy."

I swear I just heard someone say my name. Nah, I'm probably daydreaming again about me gamboling charmingly through a meadow filled with lush green grass and the wind blowing through my hair as I swing my arms carelessly around me. While humming my favorite song, I pluck a flower that is colored red.

A red rose.

"MACY!" That certainly wasn't the imaginary rose I'm holding in my hand screaming my name. I open my eyes lickety split as I can hear something heavy fall on the ground. My history book, but of course.

"What is it?" I groan as I stoop down to grab it.

My one and only best friend, Leah Rutherford, stares at me wide-eyed. "You idiot, this is not a place to take a catnap!" She hisses as I pull my hair up into a bun.

"Relax, I was just catching up on my beauty sleep." The last couple of words are hardly loudable as I yawn while trying to not sound like a baby that is learning his very first words.

"You're impossible." Leah says while shaking her head in amusement. "I seriously have no idea how you manage to keep getting good grades."

I shrug, not really knowing the answer to that myself.

I guess I'm just smart.

During lunch, Leah and I are flipping through the pages of Vogue, a globally recognized fashion and lifestyle magazine in case you didn't know yet. Don't ask me why I find this so interesting and exciting. It's because I normally would not ever spend my money on such an expensive package of paper stapled together. I don't have the money for it. But now that I turned 17 just the day before today, yup, yesterday... Leah bought me one aside from all the other things she gave me for my birthday. Let's just say her parents are quite rich. No, they're not millionaires. But they have money, way more than my parents do.

"Paulette is gorgeous, seriously." Leah whispers as she admires a picture of Paulette Calliwell, supermodel since the day I learned how to tie my shoes. Which was, believe me, about 13 years ago. I've just got a long-term memory, don't freak out.

"Mae." A manly voice erupts from behind me as I turn around in a glance. There I find Shane Rodriquez jogging towards our table wearing an oh-so-sexy scoop neck t-shirt from AliExpress. I don't know why, but I think he looks hot.

"Hey!" I blurt out a little more gleesome than intended. He takes the seat next to me and gulps down my Banana Rainbow Smoothie. "Hey..."

"Oh, you still wanted that?" Shane asks as he holds the empty bottle in the air, shaking it wantonly. Of course, you idiot. Think, use that precious brain of yours.

"No, not anymore." I roll my eyes as I snatch it out of his hand. He then chuckles making my legs go weak. Making them feel like jelly, that is what this dude, my male friend ever since we got introduced by our parents, does to me. Fortunately I'm not standing on two feet right now or I'd be crying out of embarrassment. Isn't it weird though? How I've known this guy for years and yet, I can't seem to control my feelings for him.
