Chapter 10;
The Sacrificial Eternity

|~[𝖙.𝖙]~|

As the four boys walked to the oblivious boy's house, Kai sat on his couch with a bowl of candy in his arms. He unwrapped piece after piece, savoring each bite with a hum of satisfaction.

It was already past midnight and he wasn't usually up so late, but Taehyun had messaged him, asking if he could come over. Sitting in somber silence, Kai stared up at the ceiling and looked for animals in the texture like he would with clouds.

The silence was soon interrupted as his mother walked behind him, grabbing onto his shoulders to scare him. Kai jumped in surprise, immediately laughing after noticing most of his candy had fallen on the floor.

"Why'd you do that?" He asked with a smile on his face. The woman grabbed a Reese's and unwrapped it, tossing it into her mouth. She shrugged, throwing the wrapper into his bowl, "why are you up so late?"

He bent down to pick up each of the fallen candies, placing them back into his bowl. "Taehyun texted me, asking if he can come over. I figured it was important so I told him to come over whenever," Kai stood up and set the bowl onto the coffee table.

She nodded, pulling back her long hair into a messy bun, "don't stay up too late, you still have school tomorrow." Kai rolled his eyes, "you stay up until 4:00 am every night and still go to work the next day."

"Sleep is irrelevant when you're an adult. You might as well get as much as you can while you're still young," she sighed, heading into the kitchen to fill up a glass of water. Suddenly, a knock sounded at the door. As his mom was about to answer it, Kai waved his hand in front of him, motioning that he would get it.

He walked toward the door and opened it, his face freezing in shock. It was Taehyun, but beside him, Yeonjun, Beomgyu, and Soobin were also standing there. Not knowing what to do, Kai looked back at his mom and then at them again.

"Tae- Taehyun, I thought it was just going to be you," Kai awkwardly stated in front of the four. His mother seemed to have heard, stepping toward the door and noticing the boys, "woah, woah, woah, I didn't say you could have a party on a school night."

Kai glanced at her with a tense smile, remaining silent as he didn't know what to say. Quickly, Taehyun looked at Beomgyu for silent approval. His eyesight had gone back to normal a little while ago so he couldn't tell if Kai's mom was a witch or not.

The dark-haired boy nodded so Taehyun spoke up, "Mrs. Huening, we need to speak with you." It was obvious that the matter was important as the woman could tell that three of them weren't human.

She didn't know how to respond since her son was right there. The boy had only known of some magic when he was little, but ever since then, she had kept that world away from him. She didn't want all these years of building a normal life to go to waste.

But, Taehyun was like a son to her. Knowing she couldn't refuse, she gestured for them to come in. So, the four boys stepped inside, three of them glancing around the house.

Yeonjun didn't know why, but he was never allowed at Kai's house. Whenever he asked the boy if he could stay over, Kai would sadly tell him he wasn't allowed. He had always thought it could've been because he was a bad influence, but that truly couldn't have been the case if Kai was allowed to come to his house.

"Well, uh, do you kids want any water or snacks?" She asked to break the ice. Taehyun smiled, shaking his head, "no, we're okay. Thank you, though." The woman nodded, hesitating before leading them to the kitchen.
