The battle is won, but count the cost

a/n: heavily inspired by the legend that is JRR Tolkien.

Out of the frying pan, and into the fire.
Let's win this, put on your armor and arm yourself with a rifle.
This battle we will fight might be our last; this we do not know.
But you must hear what I have in tow.

It was an honor being with you, and may the heavens be by our side.
May no one perish, may no one cry.
May our hearts be full and all eyes dry.

But one thing I know, after this battle we will not be the same, whether in the best or not.
I wish you all to have the last laugh and the winning shot.

I will yearn nothing more than to see you all again.
After this war, I am sure there will still be something good to gain.
Let us all drink our wine, one last time.
Rejoice in laughter, flipping the dime.

Follow the leader, into the battlefield.
Hold on to your swords and onto your shields.
We will ride and fight till dawn.
Prove to the enemy we will be no pawn.

Today together, we draw our weapons,
Cry out loud when the sun beacons.
Our freedom is above that wall of stone.
Do we stand back and let them reclaim what is our own?

Look into the eyes of your comrades.
Follow the king's commands.
We will fight, to live or to die.
Unsure if there may be a teary eye.

Halfway we go, into the frontline.
Constantly checking whether everyone is fine.
The adrenaline pumping in our veins,
Pulling at your horses' reins.

A slash is heard, the enemy is retreating.
We cheer and wail; our men are dying.
The war is won, but count the cost,
The enemies run, yet all hope is lost

Tonight, we shall dine.
Eat all meat and drink the finest wine.
We will cheer and laughter shall erupt once more.
For we have now defeated the enemy, peace shall run now and forevermore.
