What an awesome way to end the season!
One of the ships reached its destination and its fine enough for me! What about you?
Hurray for the WinterGarden Ship! Gyeo Eul's courage paid off. Who would have thought that she could actually tell Jeong Won to stay by her side instead of God's? That was a very daunting thing to say, but she did it! And that kiss! I am sure, all of us held our breaths when Jeong Won touched Gyeo Eul's head as if to bless her...then slid his hands down to her cheeks...and...aaaaaaaahhhhhhh! Ja! Geugon kiseuya! 😘To think that her name means 'Long Winter'...it only took a season for their ship to sail across the turbulent seas. We are so happy for them, we enjoyed that scene so much...replay/rewind button...hello and bye bye....😂
Knowing that this drama was planned to have multiple seasons, of course it would be logical to have it end openly. Seuk Hyung's wife calling him on Christmas Day will keep our curiosities busy as to what could the reason be. The SeukMin ship failed to sail on this season, but of course, there is season 2 so we need not fret much. It was also implied that Ik Jun, other than himself, has set his sights on his next matchmaking task—Seuk Hyung and Min Ha.
Jun Wan and Ik Sun also left us hanging. The ring being returned was a perfectly torturous way of leaving us, the ByuntaeBidulgi shippers, wondering until next season. Their separation was a little heavy on the heart—Ik Sun boarding her flight, without seeing Jun Wan and not even being able to say proper goodbyes. We would just have to replay that 'kissing the hallucination' scene at the hospital entrance...admit it. You enjoyed that, too.
The WinterGarden and ByuntaeBidulgi ships kissing set my hopes high for the InsiderGhost ship, but boy! Was I disappointed! That Sokcho scene where Ik Jun told Song Hwa about his 'friend' and she was like...uhm...Jamkkan...I can't do this. Not just yet. Because...Shin PD and Writer Lee said so....😁
But come to think of it: It was actually a perfect season ending for Ik Jun and Song Hwa. I could not think of any other way to leave us all hanging on a cliff, but instead of asking for help, we are asking for more. We are going to be busy thinking about them until season 2.🥰
Special mention to the patients: Ji Hyeon, the little girl who had a scooter accident, gave Jeong Won and Gyeo Eul a hard time, but everything paid off. Her visit to Jeong Won on Christmas Day was like a forecast of good things to come. And it was!
Jun Wan and Jae Hak's patient, Jung Min, the one with the infected stent and continuous bleeding, also gave our doctors a heavy burden that was almost too much to carry. That scene where his parents were talking to him, as if saying goodbye but not quite, was a very touching one. I am not a parent, but I felt the mother's pain...and somehow you will have an idea of how devastating it is for a parent to have their child go before them. Jae Hak, was in a way the hero of this patient, when, despite Jun Wan who had almost given up, suggested another surgery in a different location, and succeeded. Because of the doctor's dedication, it's not impossible to see more 'miracles' like these to happen.
Seuk Hyung's patient, whose unborn baby died within her—was a total tearjerker. I may not exactly know how mothers who undergo the same tragedy feel, but that scene made me see how emotionally painful it was. And the way Seuk Hyung dealt with the situation was impressive...I wish more doctors, especially those in the same specialization, were like him.
The revelation about Song Hwa being Yong Bok's mother's doctor ten years ago was so touching. Remembering only the dedication—and the shoe size—of the doctor who attended to her mother were enough motivation for her to become a doctor to pay it forward. Yong Bok stole the scene when she wept because, according to her, she misses her mother so much.
And Ik Jun's patient, Lee Chang Hak, might have been the luckiest patient YULJE has ever had. The liver specimen was not intended for him, but the actual recipient had a cardiac arrest, and those on the waiting list were either too far away or of a different blood type. I enjoyed that scene where Ik Jun conversed with this patient's son in sign language. Who would ever spend time to learn basic signs for his patients? Ik Jun would! He deserves an award for this....
And the playlist: Me to You, You to Me. I first heard this song in a movie, and I loved it. That was why it was a delight to hear it again, in a different story with a different setting. The squad, singing the song with Song Hwa's tone-deaf pitch dominating the air, was like a ray of hope of good things to come, even though the song speaks of good memories of loved ones. Their faces reflect joy and happiness despite distresses as they perform, and it rubbed on me. I hope it did to everyone.
I know everyone was asking for more but that was it! Let's just make a lot of noise so season 2 will come sooner....😂
