Outside of Shermer High School, a silver BMW is the first car to arrive. Inside are Claire Standish and her dad.

Claire looks at the school with a gloomy expression.

"I can't believe you can't get me out of this," She said with disappointment. "It's so absurd that I have to be here on a Saturday!"

"It's not like I'm a defective or anything." Claire added.

Claire's dad sighed and turned to his daughter.

"I'll make it up to you," He said. "Honey, ditching class to go shopping doesn't make you a defective. Have a good day,"

Claire rolled her eyes. She takes her small shopping bag and gets out of the car, closing the door behind her.

Another car is parked up in front of the school. Inside is Brian Johnson, his mother, and little sister.

"Is this the first time or last time we do this?" Mrs. Johnson asked.

"Last," said Brian.

"Well get in there and use the time to your advantage." Mrs. Johnson said sternly.

"Mom, we're not supposed to study. We're supposed to sit there and do nothing," Brian replied.

"Well mister, you figure out a way to study!" Mrs. Johnson snapped.

"Yeah," Brian's little sister piped up, taunting her older brother.

Brian glared at his sister.

"Well go!" Mrs. Johnson commanded.

Brian gets out and shuts the door.

Behind the Johnsons' car is a pickup truck belonging to Andy Clark and his dad.

"Hey I screwed around," Mr. Clark said.

"Guys screw around there's nothing wrong with that,"

Andy nodded.

"Except you got caught sport," Mr. Clark pointed out.

"Yeah and Mom already ranged me alright?" Andy asked.

"You want to miss a match?" Mr. Clark asked, frowning. "You want to blow your ride?"

Andy shook his head.

"Now, no school's gonna give a scholarship to a discipline case."

Andy gives his dad a cold look.

He gets out and slammed the door behind him, heading into the school.

As the pickup truck departed, John Bender is walking by himself. A gray automobile stops to a screeching halt nearly hitting him. John keeps walking pretending it didn't happen.

Allison Reynolds gets out, closing the door.

She starts to wave goodbye but her parents drive off, leaving her there.

Allison watched a girl with dirty blonde hair pedaling on a bicycle.

Jessica Maitland parked her bike to the curb. She gets off and followed Allison into the school.
