I woke up late again after staying up late drawing, again...  The wind bit at my cheeks and ears as I ran to school.  I wished I could sleep in for once!  Oh, I'm Brielle, and I'm your everyday schoolgirl.  Well, I'm not entirely normal. I'm a huge dork, and I don't really have any real friends at my new school.  Ever since my parents switched me from my old charter school to the local public one, I've been having a really hard time.

It was finally Friday and I  had just got out of my last period class. I rushed to my locker, trying to get away from the crowds of rowdy students. And as I was putting my books away, a flash of light caught my eye.  A pretty silver necklace lay on the floor, practically being trampled.  I wove through the crowds and bended down to get a closer look.  The pendant was actually a locket, engraved with  intricate coil designs.  Who would be so careless as to drop such a beautiful piece of jewelry?  I considered taking it to the lost-and-found and picked it up.

A strange feeling overwhelmed me, something ancient and powerful... and familiar.  The world slowed around me and I lost all thought of giving the necklace up. It belonged with me.  As if in a trance, I put the locket on. Then it's like I've woken up, and everything returns to normal: shouting kids, endless crowds in the hallway.  I stared down at the necklace, now hanging from my neck.  Okay...

The rest of the afternoon was a blur; I wondered what it was exactly that I felt when I touched the locket.  When I got home, I wandered down to my room, sat on my bed, and just thought. Why does this all seem so familiar? I realized that the necklace was after all, a locket, so shouldn't there be something inside it?  Carefully, I flicked open the latch.

Inside was a beautiful blue-green stone, with coils on it that match the engravings outside

Inside was a beautiful blue-green stone, with coils on it that match the engravings outside.  But then the pendant began to hover and the stone glowed, gathering light so quickly I had to look away. What is going on?!  And just when the light was too bright to bear anymore, everything went black.

"Excuse me, are you dead?" a strangely familiar voice said. I felt a poke at my arm.

    "Stop it," I mumbled.

"So you're alive! What a relief!"  Where have I heard this voice? I thought to myself. Wait a second, how can I figure out who this is if I don't even know who I  am? "So are you going to get up or just lay there like you really are dead?"  I opened my eyes and sat up; I finally got a look at the one who was speaking. Rowdy orange hair, tanned skin, a goofy smile.  He looked so familiar...

"Welcome to the land of the living, fair lady." He offered his hand to help me up. "What's your name, miss?"  I thought hard, but couldn't recall anything, even my name. "I don't remember..." I said slowly.

"Wow, really? You must have hit your head pretty hard!  Well, I am Sir Percedal of Sadlygrove," he said with an over exaggerated bow.  Percedal? I didn't know why, but I felt like I've met him before...

"Oh! What are you doing out here anyway? Don't you know how dangerous this forest is, especially for a lovely lady like yourself?" Percedal asked.

"Hmm. Is that flirting I hear?" A deep voice grumbled. "Blondie ain't gonna be happy when she finds out, Iop brain."

Percedal yanked his sword out and glared at it. "Oh shut up, Rubilax. You know I'm just fulfilling my duty as a knight of Sadlygrove!" It turns out that the sword was the one who was talking... Rubilax the sword chuckled. "Oh, Miss Cra'll be so mad when she hears about this—ow! What'd you do that for?!" Percedal had hit Rubilax on a rock, frustration turning his tan cheeks red. "Shut up!" He said, and banged his sword on the rock again.

"Ouch! I thought-ow-we agreed-ow-not to-ow-do this-ow-anymore!" Rubilax shouted through a series of blows.

"Um..." I start, then trail off, mesmerized by the scene before me. Percedal looked up like he suddenly remembered that I was here. "Oh, sorry miss! I just had to teach my shushu here some...manners." "Manners. Sure,"Rubilax mutters as he is sheathed again.

"I better get going," Percedal said. "I'm off to the Sadida Kingdom to meet up with my friends." He paused and thought for a moment. "But I can't let a helpless maiden be out in the forest all by herself! Do you want to come along?"

Well, I couldn't be out here alone, especially without much fighting skills or anything. I shrugged and said "Why not?"

"Great!" Percedal exclaimed. "I'm sure that my friends will love you."

So we walked through the thick woods, toward what I thought was west. I could see the sun slowly setting through the leaves. Soon, it became really dark.

"Um, Dally?" I said cautiously. "It's getting pretty late..." "Yeah. We should probably set up camp—" Percedal stopped short and gave me a strange look. "Wait, why'd you call me Dally?"  Why did  I call him Dally? Surely I didn't just come up with it now; it seemed like something I've known for a while. So I just shrugged again, though I was as equally confused as Percy.

Percedal stared at me a little while longer, then starts a make-shift camp. Soon there was a campfire roaring, and Dally was chowing down on some bread. 5 minutes after finishing, he slumped over and started to snore.

This gave me time to think. Where am I, really? Why can't I remember my name, or who I am? I looked down at the strange locket hanging from my neck; it glittered in the firelight, and I ran my finger over its delicate coils. Brielle, I thought.

 That's my name. Brielle!

Memories flooded into my mind: finding the locket, the blue-green stone. My heart begins to race, and I looked over at Percedal, still sound asleep. Of course. This could only mean one thing.

I'm in the World of Twelve.
