The three of them walked deeper into the dark wilderness until the castle was no longer in sight. Yona slipped, grabbing (y/n)'s outfit to steady herself. "Princess, are you okay?" (y/n) asked, supporting her.

"Do you want to rest?" She asked, noticing how Yona was breathing heavily. Yona gave a small nod before (y/n) leaned her against the tree trunk.

"Is Min-Soo dead?" Yona asked softly, her head on the woman's shoulder. "Am I going to die too? Is Soo-Won going to kill you too?"
"I don't have a life to give to that bastard." Hak replied. (y/n) stroked the princess' crimson hair, causing the princess to feel drowsy. "Hak... (y/n)... I forbid you... to die..."

When Yona closed her eyes, (y/n) moved the princess so Yona's head was resting on her lap.

"I can't believe King Il is dead," (y/n) said softly, continuing to stroke Yona's head. "He left her all alone."

"(y/n), get some sleep, I'll keep watch," Hak said.

(y/n) nodded. "If something happens, wake me up immediately." She looked down at the sleeping princess.

Hak watched as the (h/c) haired woman's eyes closed as she drifted into her slumber. He wiped the tears that were at the corner of her eyes before kissing her forehead. "The princess can't lose you. I can't lose you so please, don't do something like that again," he said tucking a piece of loose hair behind her ear.

The next morning, (y/n) felt something shake her awake. "(y/n), wake up," Hak said, shaking her shoulder. "Hak..." She said, blinking the sleep out of her eyes.

"We should get moving," he said. (y/n) nodded. "Princess. Princess," she said, lightly shaking Yona awake. "Morning, Princess," she said.

"We should get going. They'll catch up to us," Hak said, looking around him.

"Go... where?" Yona asked softly. "When my father was weeping in joy at the celebration, not once did I say 'thank you' to him. So where... where will I go, leaving him behind?" Tears cascaded down her cheeks.

"We'll go anywhere, as long as you can live. That is how you can return the king's love." (y/n) said warmly, gently wiping the princess' tears. "Hak and I are here to protect you. Never forget that."

Hak tapped (y/n)'s shoulder. "We should get going," he said. (y/n) nodded, supporting the princess up as they continued their journey into the mountains, their destination still unknown.

They continued their journey into the afternoon when Yona collapsed. "Princess," (y/n) said, kneeling down next to her. "Do you want to rest, Princess?" Hak asked, running back.

Yona nodded slowly and they propped her against a tree. (y/n) watched as Yona's eyes closed before taking a seat next to her with Hak following suit.

"Hak. All these years we have known her, she was a princess who didn't know about dirtiness or pain. She lost all of that in one night," (y/n) said, leaning against his arm.

Hak could feel his face warm up at the contact but forced it down. "If there is anything I can do for her, I will do it. I want her to forget this pain," (y/n) said in a low voice.

Three years ago...

(y/n) was sitting on the wide guard rail, facing the garden as she swung her legs. Hak was next to her, leaning against the pillar, an apple in hand.

"I seriously want to know where you get these food from," (y/n) commented. "It seems like no matter where you go, you always have some kind of food in hand."
"They just appear," Hak joked.
