Watch Me - 2 (Daichi)

Chapter 2

I took in a deep breath as I felt the weight of the volleyball balance in my hand. With one quick motion I tossed it in the air and served it to the other side of the net. It flew directly towards Asahi in the back.

We were playing a game to finish off practice. On the other side was the starting line up, while the rest of the second years, Yamaguchi, Sugawara and me made up the second team.

We had lost the first set, but we were taking quite the lead on the second set. Thanks to Suga's calls and his knowledge of the other side's weeknesses.

Asahi sent the ball over to Kageyama, and my eyes went directly towards Hinata. They had hit us repeatedly with their quick attack, but he did serve well as a decoy so I wasn't sure where Kageyama would send it.

I tracked the flow of the ball, locking in on it as it shot towards Hinata once again. This time I had it.

Hinata spiked it just as I got in front of it, the ball hitting my arm harshly. I winced at the sting it left but saw the ball fly back towards Suga.

"Chika!" Suga shouted as the second year jumped to spike.

Not surprised when Nishinoya received his spike easily, Kageyama sent to Hinata once again. This time he was on the other side sending it back towards Yamaguchi. I watched it zoom past him and hit the ground. The whistle blew gaining them the point.

"Sorry guys." He said embarrassed.

"Don't worry about it, you'll get the next one." I said patting him on the back.

The game continued, and I was back to the front relieving some of the guys on my team. The other side had reached match point, and we were determined not to let them win. I wasn't the best spiker, but I did have some experience. It did also help that across the net from me was Sawamura, and it motivated me to hit the ball as hard as I could. I still had to pay him back for his little comment the other day.

The ball flew over the net and Ennoshita was quick to get to it. He sent it to Suga and I began to run. My eyes were trained onto the ball, and when I jumped I saw more hands in front of me. Hinata had joined Sawamura to block me, giving me only one place to put the ball. I spiked it as hard as I could, only to have Nishinoya dig it up.

"Cover!" The libero shouted, and Kageyama was right under it.

"Asahi!" The setter shouted, just as the Ace jumped and smacked the ball. It flew past us, and landed right by Ennoshita's feet winning them the game.

"Damn." I sighed leaning over to catch my breath.

"That was so awesome!" Hinata said ecstaticly, but it was aimed towards Kageyama.

I should have know the kid planned that. I stood back up and tightened my ponytail. Suga patted me on the shoulder giving me an apologetic smile. I shook my head at him and lifted my hand to stop his apologies.

"That was my bad, I should have seen Hinata come up." I said and then turned my attention on Sawamura.

"I was too focused on him." I explained, making his eyes go wide.

"Whoa, when did I become such a target?" He asked a little nervous.

"Careful Daichi, you don't want to make enemies with the coaches niece." Suga teased him.

"I'm not trying to." Sawamura waved his hands trying to defend himself.

"So what were you trying to do when you said, and I quote, 'You're good at receives. Looking at you I wouldn't have guessed it.' end quote." I asked him directly.
