"Never did I expect this to happen"
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
The season of Spring was literally the only sign of April here in Japan. It was the month which was considered to bring auspicious, previously undiscovered beginnings and good luck in the form of college graduations and promotions at workplace.
The blooming of pink cherry blossoms, though they fall off when summers arrive, were signs of getting up and try again; to dedicate ourselves to something we love and wait until we claim it.
The morning air smelt refreshing, crisp on my skin and out from any signs of pollution, I inhaled, slowly pushing the gate behind me close as it mad a jarring sound, years of rust coated on it.
Our house was miles away from the main highway that led to Naha - the metropolitan city of Okinawan Island - and a short walk through lanes could bring us to the monorail station. The location was quite convenient for Lillie and I, and the fact that I had an option to purchase a can of coffee from the vending machines there as a headstart - made it a whole lot better.
The newspaper guy threw rolls of paper into the houses he passed by on his bicycle, little gangs of students strolled along the sidewalk - donning their respective uniforms and spilling incoherent gossips of what they did during the weekend, their boisterous laughters paining my already throbbing head.
It was unbelievable how people could even materialize such energy in the morning, to speak and interact like they've been doing that all night instead of getting some sleep.
I on the other hand, was half-conscious, Like a walking dummy with braincells out to lunch and no possible sense to join syllables and form a reply to a question as simple as, "How are you doing Serena?"
Not like someone ever bothered to ask.
My walk to the station was at a snail's pace, because I knew I was early today, skipping breakfast. There was no way I was gonna eat cornflakes yet again. Having coffee and a granola bar from Lillie's money felt rather legit.
The crowd was unsurprisingly less, and it provided me relief. It was a combat, to push through herds of people and find myself a place to even stand, a vacant seat was just out of question. All I desired was freaking air to breathe.
I stood by the latter end of the monorail, detecting an unoccupied Grab handle and excusing myself. Tucking my canvas bag close to chest, I sighed when the doors slided shut. I decided upon using the vending machine that's near school rather than the station one, it usually wasn't cramped with people and offered more varieties. Well that was too stingy of me.
As the vehicle swiftly began moving with that satisfying 'whoosh' sound, I located the earphones in my pocket and tucked its bud in my ears one by one, hoping for a few seconds of solitude.
Music never failed to do that trick for me.It lured me in an another dimension, an another world of high and low notes and hidden emotions underneath the singer's voice. The way they adapt their tone to the insides and outsides of the beats, soft and shy during the intro, then slowly getting their nerve and developing throughout after which comes the pre-chorus - the very hyped moment of the song - where the voice readies itself for the chorus, the big event, the gathering.
They say that music is life, but in reality, life is a music in itself. It's like a mixtape of those tears you had shed whilst having an argument with your parents, and those hidden, knowing smiles when you get them an anniversary present.
