ONCE MORE - Chapter One

The night was dark, and clear. The air, crisp and cool with an intermittent breeze. It was a new moon, a time for rejuvenation. And that's exactly the feeling that washed over her.

She came up to the cabin to write and to get away from the unhealthy distractions of home. She had some decisions to make about her life as well, and didn't want to be influenced by anyone but herself. She'd decided to take a time out from the madness of her life and planned on being productive for the next two weeks, maybe longer if need be.

Sienna Brown was a middle aged woman, a loner and a spirited lesbian. She had a few good friends but she prefered her own company. She was a talented, educated woman, creative, artistic, with a peculiar sense of humor, tolerant, well read, and above all she was her own woman. She was also a devoted spiritual seeker, pursuing her truth.

She was in a relationship and had been for the past eight years, yet she wasn't sure how much longer she could stay. It felt like a dead end to her. She felt like she was stagnating, she wasn't moving forward and hadn't been for the past few years, so she started to seriously question the relationship and herself. She was debating the validity of her relationship and she knew she didn't want to just settle for something that had been starving her for the past three years. She wanted to feel alive again and she had a sense of urgency about it and she knew what that was all about. She didn't have much time left and she still had a lot to do before it was too late.

She finished unpacking and started a fire in the stone fireplace. It slowly caught and filled the room with a warm glow. She headed into the kitchen and poured herself a small glass of scotch, headed back to the front room, made herself comfortable on the couch and set up her laptop. She thought she might try to get some writing done before she retired for the evening.

Looking at the blank screen, she took a sip of her drink. She'd already finished the first five chapters of her novel. She reread chapter five to try to get back into the flow. Her publisher was putting on the pressure for five more chapters and she didn't want to disappoint her. Deadlines were really nothing to Sienna, she seemed to thrive on them and in her whole career had maybe missed one under extenuating circumstances.

She leaned back on the couch, took another sip of her drink and stared at the screen. A million things ran through her head all at the same time. A friend inadvertently popped into her head,  an ex lover actually, whom she thought a lot about over the years. She had some good memories of her, but they hadn't kept in touch over the years and just recently reconnected with each other. It had been a positive reunion. Sienna knew that they would meet again at some point and was glad that it was now. She had hoped for things to be different between them, but now, it would be next to impossible, given her situation.

The fire crackled and popped in the background of her thoughts. She looked over at the dwindling flames and got up to add another couple of logs. The wood was very dry and was burning fast and hot. Just as her memories were.

Her mind's eye recaptured her contemplation of her time with Charly, the one person who could make her come alive again. Should she reach out to her or should she just let her be? She didn't want to bog her down with her superfluous impediments, not that she wasn't dealing with it on her own, because she was. Yet she felt the prolific desire to procure her company for a few days. She had some business to discuss with her and she wanted to spend some good healthy time alone with her, before she didn't have the strength to anymore.

Charly was a very sensually effective woman who wasn't afraid to express herself. She was a strong, opinionated woman who knew exactly what she wanted in life. She was clear and honest in her communications. She'd come a long way since they'd last been together. She was proud of her but hadn't yet let her know that, and it made Sienna's attraction to her even that much more intense. She wasn't afraid to explore and try new things. It was always fresh and new with her. It was real, spontaneous, not fabricated or planned. Sienna could be in the moment with her, with no distractions, and lose all sense of time. Time didn't exist for her when they were together. She could get lost in another world, just by being with her, looking into her eyes, by her touch, the enchanting sound of her lascivious voice, not to mention her seductive energy. Sienna would never stop wanting her, even after she was gone.
