"Hello," I called out, my voice carrying a mix of excitement and anticipation.
"Yes, don't worry, leave it there, thanks," he replied from the other end of the line. "Hey babes, what's good?"
"Good morning to you too," I said, rolling my eyes playfully, even though he couldn't see me. "How are you?"
"I'm good, you? How was your night?"
"Good, thanks. How about yours?"
"I couldn't sleep well," he confessed, and suddenly, my heart skipped a beat. There was a hint of concern in his voice that sent a shiver down my spine.
What's troubling him this time?
"Why? What happened? Are you okay?" I asked, my voice laced with worry.
He chuckled softly, trying to lighten the mood. "Calm down, love. I'm okay. I couldn't sleep well because you weren't here with me."
I sighed, a mixture of relief and affection washing over me. I missed him too, but I didn't want to let him know just how much. I didn't want him to get too comfortable. "You can be so cheesy, you know that?"
"But you like it," he replied, his voice filled with confidence and a hint of mischief.
I couldn't help but smile, knowing he was right. I secretly enjoyed his cheesy antics. "Yeah, well, maybe just a little."
"You can't resist me, can you?" he teased.
I muttered under my breath, a playful insult directed at him. But to my surprise, he heard it anyway.
"Hey! I heard that," he exclaimed, amusement evident in his voice. "How's everything on your side? How's everyone? I told you to call me when you got home, but you didn't. Tom told me you were already home while we were talking on the phone yesterday."
A pang of guilt washed over me as I realized I had forgotten to call him. "I'm so sorry, baby. I completely forgot."
"Yeah, it's fine. So... How are they all doing?" he asked, his tone shifting to genuine concern.
"They're all doing well, thanks," I replied, appreciating his genuine care and understanding. "I know I seem distant lately, and I have a lot on my mind. But you don't need to worry or pressure me. I just feel like something's wrong, and I'm trying to figure it out. It's not easy fitting in after being away for so long."
"Hmm..." There was a momentary silence on the line as he absorbed my words, processing them. "You're a strong woman, and I believe in you. Whatever challenges come your way, remember to see them as small before God. By the way, have you been praying?"
Pray?
The question caught me off guard, making me realize how neglectful I had been in my spiritual practices. Guilt washed over me as I reflected on my lack of prayer.
Wow! I hadn't realized it had been so long since I prayed.
"Babe, you didn't answer me. That shows you haven't been praying," he stated, his voice gentle but firm. "Take some time now to pray. I'll leave you to it. Later, I love you."
I took a deep breath, feeling a mix of gratitude and conviction. "Yeah, thanks. I love you more, and I'll talk to you later. Bye." I ended the call and gently placed my phone on the bed. I turned my attention to the One who can do all things, seeking solace and guidance in prayer.
I poured out my heart in prayer, sharing my worries, fears, and hopes with the Almighty. It felt like a weight was lifted off my shoulders as I entrusted everything to God. After what seemed like an eternity, I concluded my prayers and made my way to the living room, but no one was there. I decided to check on my siblings, starting with Jesuseyi.
