Prologue: A Strange Request

Ah London. The capital of the UK and where our story begins.

An all boys school, something which most would see as outdated is our setting.

With mixed schools becoming the new normal over the past few decades, single sex schools are private and only people with enough money will send their kids there.

Speaking of going out of fashion, the whole concept of magic which had stood tall for generations was now starting to lose its influence on the world.

But maybe that wasn't true.

Headteacher: It is a peculiar offer you are presenting headmistress.

The headmistress of Luna Nova, a school for girls who were eager to become witches has come forward asking a favour.

Holbrooke: I understand why you might be sceptical and more importantly wondering why I am asking this of you. But magic is on the decline and I need to see if mixing genders at this school will aid in making it relevant again.

Headteacher: While I do agree that magic is on the decline, I myself have not heard anything about it in years. But the question is why do you want one of my students?

Holbrooke: I have tried other places and they have absolutely refused on the spot. I was hoping that you would at least consider.

The two schools had worked together in the past in the golden age of magic.

Both schools had stood together for hundreds of years. Until the decline of magic which severed any relationship between them.

But not entirely.

Headteacher: I will not turn you down Miss Holbrooke. I will discuss with my faculty and then we will select a student to join you.

Holbrooke: Thank you. I am eager to hear the outcome.

Finnelan: Just tell me why having a boy attending the school will help Miranda.

The atmosphere in the meeting between the headmistress Miranda Holbrooke and her second in command Anne Finnelan was tense.

Mainly because the two had differing opinions on the matter of having a male in a school of all females.

Holbrooke: Anne. Magic is not as big as it used to be. Maybe if we start to have boys and girls attend the school, we will be seen as more modern. This whole single sex school thing is something that has been phased out over time.

Finnelan: Yes but it is tradition that this is an all girls school! Are you willing to break that in order to just get a little more recognition?

Holbrooke: If we don't change, then we will have to close. The world is changing, and we have to move with the times or be left behind.

There is a moments pause.

The look on Finnelan's face made it obvious that she was against it.
