Lena has only known betrayal and manipulation from her family. Physical and psychological abuse was nothing new to her. Every day she would be told how she would never amount to much and that everything she does isn't good enough.
She would think up and manufacture an invention only to have it be torn down and be called cute and told that she should make it in pink. One day she just snapped. She couldn't live with her family anymore. If she could even call them that.
Lillian always made sure Lena knew she didn't belong and that she wasn't and would never be a luthor. She wasn't able to take the abuse any longer. If she stayed she would surely take her own life. She was no stranger to that kind of thinking. She wanted to. But she didn't want to let go of that last tiny strand of hope she had left that things could be better.
She just had to get out. So she left. She took as much money as she could and moved to National city. No one payed attention to her at home anyway so her absence would go unnoticed for a while.
She made her way to a cafe at the corner. It was busy but not too crowded. She didn't want to be touched or noticed by anyone.
Luckily her family despised her so much that they kept her out of the media and press. No one knew about her. Or who she was. Good.A fresh start was at her finger tips. She finally got away. She was free.
She placed her order and sat down at a corner table to wait for her food.
She couldn't help but people watch. She loved to see all the happy faces of the people with loving families to go home to. The smiling faces of children with happy parents who love them.
She was glad they were happy. It gave her hope that she could be too.
She wanted to be like them. To have a chosen family who loved her for who she was. But most of all she wanted to help people. She needed to help people. It was the only thing that kept her going. She was determined to not be like her family. All they did was lie and steal and manipulate and hurt people for their own benefit. She hated that.
She was snapped out of her thaughts by her order being called. She got up and made the way to the counter to pick it up. She made her way back to her table. And started to eat.
She didn't realize how crowded the cafe got. All the tables were full and the only seat unoccupied was the chair across from her at her table.
That's when a smiling blond woman approached her. She had on a light blue dress with a white cardigan. And black flats.
Her smile was beautifully kind. That's the first thing she noticed about her. Her smile made you smile. Her cheeks were rosy and her eyes were bright full of happiness and hope. Her glasses didn't block any light form coming out.
"Hi I'm Kara Danvers, do you mind if I sit here? All the tables are full and you look like you could use a friend." She introduced herself
She had no idea how right she was. Lena has never had a friend before. The closest she had was a stray cat. But as soon as Lillian found out about it the cat disappeared.
Kara's stare snapped Lena out of her memories. "Oh. Uh. Yes. Absolutely." Lena answered
Kara sat down and began to speak.
"This place gets crowded fast. It's the only coffee shop around for a while. Plus it has the best dounuts in the galaxy." Kara explained.Lena giggled. "I'll have to try them. I'm Lena." She spoke. She didn't want to reveal her last name. She was ashamed and didn't want to be apart of that family anymore.
"I'm sorry to intrude. You looked deep in thaught. And if you were waiting for someone I could leave. I would hate to be in the way." Kara apologized. And started to get up
"No. Please don't leave. I'm alone. I don't have anyone. And your not in the way." Lena begged
"I haven't seen you around before. Are you new to National city?" Kara asked
"Yeah. This is pretty much my first time anywhere. I've never really left home before. I just moved here." Lena explained
"Well on behalf of the whole of National city I officially welcome you." Kara dubed in a silly manner
"Thank you. You're the first person I've talked to here. Your the first person to make me feel welcome. Anywhere really." Lena said
Kara smiled. "So where do you live I could bring you welcoming flowers or something." Kara suggested.
"I actually haven't figured that part out yet. I'll let you know as soon as I do." Lena explained
"Oh well at least let me buy you your food. As a welcoming then." Kara stated
"No you don't have to.-" lena started
"I insist." Kara interrupted. Not taking no for an answer.Lena gave in.
The two women continued to talk and became fast friends. Eventually Kara had to get back to work. But not before giving Lena her number and insisting for Lena to call her if she needs anything.
They said their goodbyes and Lena set off to find a hotel to stay in before she could get an apartment of her own.
Lena had made her first friend in National city. And was excited to get to know her better and spend time together.
Today had been an eventful day. But all lena could think about was how she was finally away from her abusers and free. Free. She was finally free!!! She was so happy.
Those were the last thaughts she had before drifting off to sleep in her hotel room bed. Excited to get her own place tomorrow.
